Advantages: Nice Style, Great Site Shortcut System

Disadvantages: Has some incompatibility issues

Back in the day you either used Netscape or Internet Explorer, now everyone's at with the likes of Google and Apple throwing their names into the realm of Internet browsers.

I'm not really fussed about what browser to use but I was finding Internet Explorer slowing up with the current demands of the Internet and the share weight of whistles and bells advertisements that seem to litter web pages you visit on a daily basis.

I had read that Apples latest release of Safari offered a good speed of internet browsing so I thought I'd give it a try and went for the free download.

Taking on a similar mantle to the browsing used on their ipods and iphones, I found Safari a very slick looking operation. The most popular websites you frequent are all listed in small frames on the browser enabling you a one click option to go to the place where you frequent, pretty handy but if your computer doesn't take kindly to processing graphics speedily then it can slow down the whole operation. On the whole though I like the touches and ease of use it brings to browsing.

But does Safari deliver on speed or is more of an ambling trek through a desert of Internet pages. Well I've certainly found it faster than Internet Explorer. Pages load faster, anything with Java in seems to process quickly and overall there's a lot less hanging around. If you're running mobile broadband dongle then you can sometimes get speed drops that really make the Internet a chore. Safari seems to help overcome some of those problems and frustrations.

But I'm afraid to say I've also had some incompatibility issues with Safari in comparison to Internet Explorer.

Problem 1 -

BBC's Iplayer seems to have some response issues. I tried to play the latest Mayo/Kermode movie reviews and despite getting all the graphics there was zero response to hitting the play button. Something that didn't happen when loading the same thing into Internet Explorer.

Problem 2 -

Safari can't seem to access my online banking with Abbey. At first I thought the url's had changed, thus outdating my bookmarks. But this wasn't the case as again the same address had no problem in Internet Explorer.

I've also experienced some crashing when visiting sites where there are flash applications or similar programs. It would appear that there are still teething problems with this browser when to comes to being compatiable with applications. But then that's the wonder of computers and software in general, there always some problems somewhere.

I'm still continuing to use Safari and hopefully these little niggles get ironed out once they receive feedback from users. It's certainly a good browser and offers good response.
It's just a shame that sometimes I still calling on the help of Internet Explorer which is somewhat cumbersome in comparison.

Summary: A good browser which can only get better

Good review. It is slightly incompatible but it is always improving! I think the speed is great and it can surf 99.99999% of sites very well so I don't see why it should be 3 stars instead of 4, but fair opinion! =]
