Advantages: They are my top 10 :)
Disadvantages: They probably won't be your top 10!
OOh, it's difficult to narrow it down to just 10 isn't it? Well, here is my list, hope I introduce you to a couple of names that you've not seen before.
www.hemihelp.org.uk
This is the online site for the charity Hemihelp , which is set up to help children with Hemiplegia and their families. Hemiplegia is a form of Cerebral Palsy which affects one side of the body.
Hemihelp offer information leaflets, which cover everything you would need to know, plus provided full support and like-minded other people to talk to. You can also join the group offline, and go on to meet other members if you want to, and they also have a helpline. Hemihelp are a small but vital charity, and they really want to expand their services further, so why not go and have a look at the fundraising ideas on their site?
bbc.co.uk
This is where I go for programme information, to look at Steve Wright's Website of the Day recommendations and to find Cbeebies site for my kids - Cbeebies has all manner of games for children of all ages and it's relatively safe and secure.
I also occasionally use bbc.co.uk for my local area - you can set the bbc homepage with your own postcode, so that it automatically gives you your local picture.
Cerebra.org.uk
Cerebra is the online site for the charity of the same name, who provide information, help and support for families of children who have had a brain injury. You can also join the group offline, and they supply information, grants and even an advocacy service. I can't recommend them highly enough.
digitalspy.co.uk
This is a site mainly concerned with showbiz trivia, and it's where I like to go for a bit of distraction. The site has main articles, but most of the fun lies in reading the forums, where members swap (alleged) celebrity stories and generally pull famous people to bits. When that's done, they often turn on each other, and it's quite an amusing read at times.
ebay.co.uk
This is the online auction site that everyone must be aware of by now, and it's where I make the bulk of my (part-time) living, as well as being a buyer too. What can I say, it's great for bargains, or just browsing.
timesonline.co.uk
A news site, the online version of the traditional Times newspaper of course. I admit I find the tabloids a lot easier to read, but I don't find them all that trustworthy, so if it's a serious news item, timesonline is where I check it out. The site is being constantly refreshed to keep bang up to date, and it's all reported in a non-hysterical way with no media frenzy type fussing - you just get statement of the facts, which is what you need sometimes.
It also has great lifestyle and health articles, which can be really informative and interesting, and these stay on the site indefinitely to give you a chance to catch up.
dooyoo.co.uk
I think we all know this one, don't we ? ;)
Dooyoo is the first port of call if you need unbiased advice about a product or service, where you can find out what real people's experiences are. And of course, as a member, it's a great way of earning a bit of cash for anyone who enjoys writing.
pigsback.com
Pigsback.com is a clickthrough site mainly, although it also has many competitions and quizzes. You collect your 'piggy points' and exchange them for rewards, which are the usual range of vouchers in common with many other sites, for example Boots vouchers, clothing or accommodation vouchers, too many to mention!
flickr.com
I do not have a flickr account myself, but I love looking at other peoples work on this site: Some of the photos I have seen on Flickr, done by amateurs, are stunning, I particularly enjoy the ones of world cities.
photobucket.com
Photobucket is a photo hosting website, and I use it for personal photos and also as a host for my pictures that I use in my ebay listings: Providing a link to photobucket pictures means that the photo appears free in each auction, rather than having to pay ebay to host it. Every little bit helps, even if it's only a few pence each time. My only criticism is that I find Photobucket moves very slowly, which can be a bit frustrating.
Overall: My top ten useful sites!
Summary: Please have a look at the charity sites that I've mentioned
