Advantages: addictive, helpful
Disadvantages: addictive! timewasting :D
Despite working two jobs, I still find myself on the internet more often than not, both at work and home. Although there is a whole world of internet sites available out there, there is a limited list on which I spend most of my time, and here it is.
1) Like many others, www.facebook.com is a massive addiction of mine. I use it to keep in touch with current friends, I use it to keep in touch with family members who live far away, I use it to keep in touch with work colleagues, old school friends, and many many more. I enjoy logging on everyday to see what everyone of my friends is up to with the status feed - maybe I'm just an overly nosy person. I just find it very addictive and like how there is always something going on.
2) Lately I have been going onto www.inmeofficial.co.uk/forums a lot - these are the forums of one of my favourite bands, InMe. I've liked them since I was 13, and they are now in the process of releasing a new album due out in the summer, so my interest has been refreshed and I have enjoyed going onto the forums and discussing the sample tracks available with many new members and new fans of the band. There is always something going on, whether it be spam threads just to entertain, or threads trying to work out lyrics of new songs.
3) www.livejournal.com is a website I also find incredibly addictive. I use it to keep track of my own day to day thoughts and what I've been doing, as well as keeping up to date with many of my friends journals too. I am also a member of many communities, varying from selling communities to ones that discuss TV shows like Lost, which is one of my favourites. Again there is always something going on so never boring!
4) lightspeedpanel.com/uk is a survey website which is a lot busier than many others I have signed up to in the past. I always check it when I come online just in case I have missed an email about a survey. I tend to do three or four a week, and normally they provide you with roughly 100 lightspeed points. Approx 500 lightspeed points is equal to £5 which you can cash in through paypal, so I make quite a bit of money through this site for not too much of my time. Each survey can vary from taking ten minutes to thirty, depending on the subject. A lot of the time they are about food and drink which is something everyone knows about, so they are open to a lot of potential participants which is good - a lot of other survey sites have narrower specifications.
5) www.lloydstsb.co.uk - a relatively obvious one but I don't know how I would cope without online banking! I like to check this every day just so I am sure how much money I have, make sure my direct debits have come out when they should and just make sure I have enough money to cover any potential costs for the month.
6) www.hotmail.com - again another obvious one. I do tend to get increasing amounts of spam email these days which is a big pain, but other than that I do look forward to checking my email as I get a lot of personal emails from friends and penpals, as well as newsletters from informative websites that offer me the key points of things they might be discussing on that week.
7) www.moneysavingexpert.com - as well as being the best website for finding out bargainous flight details and how to save money doing practically anything, the forums on this site are an invaluable resource, with threads showing you how to get freebies, how to save the most money doing your weekly shop, what shops have what offers on at any given time and LOADS more. I could spend hours and hours on these forums just picking up moneysaving tips, well worth anyones time especially during this lovely credit crunch.
8) www.dooyoo.co.uk - I couldn't go on without mentioning dooyoo - I'll be honest, I do enjoy this site for its moneymaking potential, however it is quite handy for looking up reviews about potential purchases. I have come across some gem reviews that have really given me useful information regarding things I had plans to buy.
9) www.wikipedia.org - sometimes I just look up things on this site when I'm bored because it is a great source of information and sometimes you find out the most random things that are just really good to know, little tidbits that might come in handy one day at a pub quiz or something :D Again another site that I could waste hours on, just looking up different programmes or actors or anything really!
10) www.imdb.com - Theres always a tv programme or film that I'll watch and think.. I really recognise that actor / actress.. where have I seen them before? This is where imdb comes in really handy and gives you a complete list of any production that an actor or actress may have been in, whether playing a part or featuring as themselves. One more website for me to waste my life away on!
Summary: My top ten timewasters..
