Advantages: Websites I use the most
Disadvantages: I could of added so many more sites
Here is a list of my Top 10 websites. I have leaned more towards websites I use a lot rather than going with the obvious sites. Enjoy.
NUMBER TEN: www.microsoft.com
Best thing about the site: Downloads
Created by: Bill Gates
Type: Software Developing Company
This has to be in anyone's top 10 as most of use has probably used it at some time trying to download those annoying updates for your windows software.
From my experience I have used this site to find new beta versions (trials) of Microsoft Windows in which you can try the new operating system for free before they release the actual working version.
NUMBER NINE: www.download.com
Best thing about the site: Free legal downloads
Created by: CNET
Type: Freeware, Shareware (Legal files for downloading for your PC)
This little beauty has been around a while and is one of my favourite websites for finding new freeware software (free to download and use). For example I tend to try and find new music players for my MP3s and you can find a vast range of programs which are free to download to your PC which will come with allsorts of great add-on features.
You can also find anti-virus software, video players, games, zipping utilities and many more.
NUMBER EIGHT: www.hotmail.com
Best thing about the site: Great email service
Created by: Microsoft
Type: Email and storage service
This is one website which probably all of us use or have used at some point since the internet became so popular. You can use this site to read, create and edit emails to your friends or work colleagues. Also an add on function for signing up to this site allows you to sign into the instant messaging service called MSN Messenger which allows you to login and type to your friends over the internet for free.
NUMBER SEVEN: www.bbc.co.uk
Best thing about the site: News
Created by: BBC
Type: News website
I tend to use this website in my lunch hour at work. Mainly because this is the only site in which our IT department has not blocked. The layout and graphics are quite attractive and the site it self is very user friendly and easy to navigate around.
Here you can find news on Sport, Business, Politics, World News, Technology, Science and many more.
NUMBER SIX: www.google.com
Best thing about the site: Search Engine
Created by: Google
Type: Search Tool
Now were would I be without this site? Id be up the creek without a paddle that's were I would be. I use this so much at work to answer lots of my questions and usually it does the job. For example if I am looking for website which had the acronym UKCRN it would return the full web address.
It's got to be one of the most used websites ever.
NUMBER FIVE: E-BAY
Best thing about the site: Buy items for cheaper
Founded by: Pierre Omidyar (1995)
Type: Online Shop
I can bet most of us have visited this website either to buy something or to see what bargains are on there. I have used this site for many years now to sell any items that are unwanted or just to make a small amount of money for Christmas.
This website would of been higher but due to recent policies created by E-Bay which protects the buyer more rather than protect the seller who actually make the site work and feel a little let down at the moment by E-Bay.
Great site and well worth a visit if you are new to the World Wide Web.
NUMBER FOUR: www.dooyoo.co.uk
Best thing about the site: Paid to review
Founded by: Dooyoo Team
Type: Helps consumers make informed purchasing decisions
Well as I am still a baby when it comes to this site I can safely say that this site will grow and grow. With the ability to earn money for writing reviews as well as earning feedback for your reviews make this site a great addition for you're favourite's toolbar.
Its not just about earning money it becomes addictive as you yearn for very useful feedback from users of the site and especially from users which have been a member since the beginning. If you get a very useful from one of those users you know you are writing good reviews.
NUMBER THREE: YouTube.com
Best thing about the site: Free streaming videos
Founded by: Chad Hurley and Steve Chen
Type: Streaming video
This is a great website for finding things that you thought had disappeared for ever. An example of this would be when I created a search for a children's cartoon called the Raggydolls and there are episodes which are split into parts but you can actually watch and relive classic videos of your favourite programmes.
Great site and will be around for a long time to come.
NUMBER TWO: www.readitswapit.co.uk
Best thing about the site: Swap your old books for free
Type: Free book swapping website (no fees - just posting your items cost you)
I have used this site so many times to swap books in which I have read and have just put o the shelf to gather dust. One day I decided to search for a site which I could trade with people who might want my books in return for books of theirs which I might like to read.
I have not had a bad experience yet and all the books have to rated in terms of how tatty or if there are pages missing. If you love to read and would like to swap those old books then this is a great site for you.
NUMBER ONE: TripAdvisor.com
Best thing about the site: Ratings from users on hotels from all around the world.
Type: Travel site
This was a massive help when deciding were to stay in New York for our honeymoon. You can see what other people have said about the hotel, the staff, and service and overall what their experience was like and if they would recommend it to stay there.
If you not sure about a hotel then use this site as it will make you mind up within minutes after reading users ratings and reviews.
Summary: Top top sites which I click the most!
