Just browsing the Lounge and thought this seem like a fun discussion. I'll list 10 of my most used sites in no particular order and briefly say why I like them.
Amazon is a great website for buying things. It doesn't have "everything" but it sure has a lot! I created an Amazon wishlist, which is an option on their website, of all the things I'd like to buy or will buy, it is a really convenient way of keeping track of things. Amazon themselves offer free delivery which is always nice. The only thing which I would change about Amazon is the payment method, I think being able to pay by PayPal would be a great addition.
I like following football especially the premier league and for me ESPN is my source for updates. They add upcoming matches, live scores with commentary and much more. Everything I need to know about a football game can be found there. They also have news and articles relating to the players and teams which is always good to read.
eBay is a great online auction website. Signing up is free, and when wanting to buy something you can use PayPal. PayPal is usually the preferred method of payment but sometimes some sellers accept other ways such as postal orders and cheques. I personally use eBay to buy quite a few things but I also sell things as well. I'm not a registered seller, just a private seller. It's a good way of getting rid of things I no longer want and making a little in the process.
The one thing that I would change if I could is allowing sellers to leave negative and/or neutral feedback. Sellers use to be able to leave negative and neutral feedback but eBay got very buyer protective to the point where sellers can only leave good feedback, which I find to complete nonsense. I've had some awful buyers who simply do not pay or take 10 days to pay then message me instantly rudely asking where is their item.
I love google and visit it every day. It has everything, literally. Not only do I make good use of the search engine, I use google images, google maps, google email which is also known as gmail and google reader. They offer so much, it is natural for me to always visit their website daily.
I love baking, cooking and experimenting with food. Picking my favourite food website is very hard but Smitten Kitchen wins by a fraction. Regular recipes are added, on average I'd say about 1 a week. Every recipe added is very well thought out, with beautiful photos illustrating them. All recipes are archived on the website, many times I've browsed the archives and made something from there. There is quite a large selection of recipes ranging from chocolatey desserts to peanut sesame noodles.
IMDb - The Internet Movie Database is brilliant! Filled with every film, TV show, documentary and more. For each film, TV show and so on there is a page giving users the chance to rate it out of 10, a brief summary about it and a message board for discussion. Each page gives suggestions as to what you might like to watch. With it constantly being updated with everything new and the option to search for things by year, it is a great way for finding good things to watch.
An online encyclopaedia filled with everything. Whenever I need to find some facts out Wikipedia is usually the place to go. The only problem with Wikipedia is thay anybody can edit the contents of it. I find the website to be well moderated and any incorrect information or abuse tends to get removed, however this depends on the popularity of the page as to how quickly action gets taken upon it. In some cases when repetitive incorrect information gets added to a page they will temporarily "lock" it preventing it from happening. Overall though they do an excellent job.
Entering competitions is something I like to do every now and again for a bit of fun. Loquax is updated daily with competitions to enter, there's that many competitions added I can't keep up entering them! They have so many but when registering an account it makes tracking your competition entries easier by using the loquax duck tracker. They have a forum with a very friendly community as well.
Gamespot is always updated with the latest game releases for all different platforms. They also have other features such as reviews, a news blog, videos, cheats and more. I enjoy going on and seeing what games are new. I'm always interested in seeing their ratings too and reading what they have to say about each game before purchasing them.
I only discovered this website earlier this year but I've already used it quite a bit. When first going on the site for me it seemed very overwhelming with a lot of information to take in but some great offers and deals get added. If you don't want to check daily there is a an email option which you can sign up for, this sends an email summarising the main offers. They also have a very active forum which I sometimes like to go on and have a browse through.
I actually found that quite hard to narrow down to 10, there is so many more sites I could have added. Surprising as I thought I might struggle to list 10.
