Having a PC in the house was never a priority to me, after all what use could it possibly be! It would just be taking up much needed space that I could use for other things. But as with all other things my husband sets his heart on having, it was just the matter of time before he went out and bought one. So around 8 years ago a chair and desk, complete with monitor, base unit and keyboard appeared in the corner of our lounge. *** Oh yes and I almost forgot to add, along with this package sat in the corner of my room was my husband, perched on his chair in a zombie like state, a view I was to become witness to for the next few years to come.*** This was of course until the Internet came into our lives. I also protested to the fact that the internet was needed in our house too, but with the insistence of my husband and daughter of how much use it could be to all of us, and how much it could help with school work I gave in again and let them have it. Little did I know that this monstrosity that still sits in my lounge would eventually take a hold of me too, so much so that my husband hardly ever gets a look in now, and now it is me who sits in the chair in that familiar zombie like state that I was so used to seeing my husband in. You may well ask what it is that keeps me entertained sat here hour after hour, day after day! So I thought id have a look on my browser and just see what sites popped up. And these are just a few of my most visited sites that I came across. ********************************************* WWW.YAHOOGROUPS.COM ************************** This site is my life line. I have been a member of yahoogroups, formerly known as egroups for around 18 months now. I am in a few different groups, but the one I visit every day is mumsunited. We are a group of 14 moms who have been chatting for the last 18 months about practically everything from raising
our kids, dealing with domestic problems, to just everyday life, We help oneanother through our ups and downs, and are always ready to lend an ear when need be. These groups are the reason my inbox exceeds 100 emails a day, all of which I read. It is very easy to join yahoogroups, all you need to do is, choose a yahoo ID and a password, and then just choose what type of group you would like to belong to. Im sure what ever type of group it is you'd like to join you will find one in here! WWW.UKPARENTS.CO.UK ************************ This is an excellent site for any parent, or parent to be. It has it's own chat room, and forums which are all easily labeled, with many different subjects, such as - Breast feeding, working from home, single parents, potty training, or cloth nappies. There are in excess of 100 different forums on this site. There are also competitions that you can enter, which have really easy to answer questions. The competitions are real too, as I have won a goodie bag of prizes myself from this site. WWW.BABIESONLINE.COM ************************* Yet another good parenting site, but this time an American one. This one also has a forums and competitions page, but the reason I use this one is the fact you can create your own free web page to show off your baby. You can add many different photos as well as choose from a large selection of themes and music to go with it. To view an example of the web pages you can create, you can go to my profile and look at my home page, which is a web page I created for my daughter Rebecca using this site. WWW.ITPAYSTOLEARN.COM *************************** A great site which has just undergone some great improvements to speed up the site. It is very easy to join, and if you like you can email me and I can send you a link. This site basically pays you to take quizzes. The questions come in three levels, eas
y, medium and hard. And there is a large selection of categories to choose from too, such as maths, science, history, and music etc. WWW.ASK.CO.UK **************** This is a search engine I always use and trust my children to use too, as I know it wont let them see any adult materiel without showing a warning sign first, so I know they are about to see something that they should'nt be looking at. WWW.MYVOICE.CO.UK ********************** This is a site that pays you to fill in simple surveys. It pays between 5-20 points per small online survey. I think this is the equivalent to 1point to the penny, so obviously you're not going to get rich using this site, but they do add new surveys everyday or so, and they only take the matter of a few seconds to fill in. It is easy to join, and is a easy and very clear site to navigate. You can also fill in a list of your interests so they can send you surveys that may be of interest to you straight to your inbox. But saying this I have been with them for around 3 months and have yet to receive a personal survey. The site pays out once you reach 20 pounds, and it pays out in high street vouchers, so there is no need to give them any of your personal bank details. WWW.THESUN.CO.UK ******************** A site I like to visit when I want to catch up on the latest celebrity gossip, or to save myself 30p from not having to purchase the paper. It basically has everything that the paper has to offer such as, all the articals, catch up on the latest sports, read Dear Dedrie (their agony aunt) or catch a glimpse of your favourite page 3 model, as well as enter competitions. WWW.OSTLOVER.COM **************** A site I always use to download music. It's an excellent site with a great search engine, whether you're looking for the most recent tunes or a golden oldie. You can search any artist or song by typing it
into the search box. You can also view and download any song in the UK charts, as well as in the American and Australian charts. Also when you search for an artist they are all laid out easily in alphabetical order. You can also print off the song words to a song, so you can sing along to your favourite tunes. WWW.FREEUKSTUFF.COM ******************* This is my favourite site for freebies for all us living in the UK. You can join for free and you than get the choice as to whether you want to recieve their newsletter with all their latest freebies straight to your inbox. I like to visit this site everyday. The site remembers your user name and password, so it is just a few clicks away to access the site. The site has new freebies added everyday, with something for everyone. I have recieved a number of freebies such as shampoo, mousemats, dogfood, birdfood as well as lots of other great samples. This is a really great site if you like to get something for nothing. WWW.FRIENDSREUNITED.CO.UK ************************* For just a 5 pound membership fee for 12months use, you can get in touch with all those spotty brats you mocked at school or get to find out how well your old friends are doing for themselves. You can also join for free and leave details of what you're up to now, but you will be unable to access other members email addresses to get in contact with them. It is well laid out, and all members are put into the schools they attended, and are then put into their year group, so you can easily find the students you went to school with. ********************************************* So after I have visited all these sites and read and replied to all my emails, it is then okay for my husband to use his precious PC, that is if he has'nt given up waiting for me to come off and gone to bed!!!! I hope you'll find some of these site useful, but be warned it is very addictiv
