Advantages: lots of news, knowledge and entertaining
Disadvantages: your rear end will go numb after being online for more than five hours!
My top ten internet sites.. 1 Google.com has to be number one. Fisrst because I use it every single day and secondly because I wouldn?t be here without it! I?ve had a computer for years, but only got an internet connection in August 2001. I went online and thought.. "And now??" I wasn't lost. Lost implies you are somewhere and know where you want to go, but can't get there. I wasn't even in existence! I had no idea, not a clue. I'd sit and stare at the top of my browser page and well.. just sit and stare. Then after a few days I went out and bought a little book called "Understand the internet" It has this list of websites to try out and one was something weird called a "search engine". A funny name ? google.com. Discovering Google was like having someone open the door to a new universe. I didn't have a clue at first. I'd stick a word in and end up with five million websites and bravely plod my way through them all one by one till I found what I wanted. Now I know how to refine a search and I've also discovered other search engines, but Google will always be my first love. 2 streetmap.co.uk this site is marvellous if you're new to a place or thinking of taking a trip around an unknown town or area. You can punch in a town name, a postal code or even a street name of anywhere in the UK and it'll take you right to the pinpoint spot on the map. You can enlarge or decrease the map size so you can start by finding a friend's house and then decrease the size so that you get first the area of the town the house is in and finally small enough to see the surrounding countryside etc. 3 webshots.com I'm addicted to this site. You download their simple software and you can register and pick out photos and artwork to be your desktop or screensaver. The fancy photos are for paying customers, but the free stuff is fantastic and I can spend a whole day
browsing through the travel section. Stunning photos. 4 azlyrics.com Trying to remember the words to an old favourite or can't figure out what the heck that new song on the radio is actually about? This place should have it. They keep a wide range of lyrics from 1960s to 2003. You can search a singer alphabetically or use and advanced search for a sing title. Great fun! One drawback - this site pelts you with pop up ads. 5 hallmark.com/Website/ I go here for their free ecards. They have a fantastic variety. You can find everything from religious (all types) holiday wishes to birthday cards and things just for fun. There?s an opera singing chimpanzee I?ve sent out as a get well soon card that always gets rave reviews. You can get soppy and sweet for your mum, romantic and seductive for your partner or cheeky and funny for your best friend. 6 care2.com This is a nice site based on caring for the environment. The main website is mostly dealing with environmental issues, news and petitions. If you register (free) you get newsletters and free ecards. The cards are nice and the site is pretty vast. There are message boards, a recipe section offering vegetarian foods and they also do household hints, arts and crafts etc. I've got some good household hints from them and I use their ecards quite a bit too. 7 hgtv.com If you're a DIY nutter this place is tops! Home and Garden TV offers you tips and DIY instructions on everything from sewing and knitting to woodwork. You can build your own furniture, revamp and old table, make a water feature for your garden, sew your own household linen or make Christmas decorations. This site has them all! The search list on the left is pretty easy to negotiate although I have noticed some crafts coming up repeatedly under different headings. So you might find felt Christmas stockings under decorations and sewn crafts. I do more looking and wishing than doing, but it's
fun and I have come away with useful tips and ideas. 8 www.geocities.com/~animalspirits Even if you're not into the idea of animal totems go and check this site out. Next time an animal passes through your day on TV or in reality go and check out what "message" it might be sending you. You might be surprised how well the answers fit! Good fun and sometimes eye opening. 9 creativethink.com This site is fun. Click on the "give me a whack" button and it poses you an idea to whack your brain and make you look at the world and yourself in a different way. The aim is to help you realise ways to solve problems and achieve more. I don't go here often, but I've never been "whacked" and not come away thinking "wow!" 10 home.att.net/~quotations This site is huge. It offers you famous quotes and jokes. You can impress your friends and family by finding the serious quotes by seriously famous people or just have fun. I sent the list of men quotes to my female friends and we all rolled about laughing. (Sorry guys) There are some truly wicked comments on the male gender made by females there! Plus a women quotes section so the men can get revenge. There are wise and funny quotes on everything from cats and dogs to life and love.

- 14/11/03 I did enjoy that because I agree with most of them. I use Hallmark cards and as for the Quotation site....that's where I get the ones I use for places like my profile and tooyoo guest book. :-) I shall look up the geocities but know that I shall be confused. My daily life includes dogs, cats, horses, chickens, ducks......lol |
