Advantages: some good answers

Disadvantages: questions often not answered, poorly answered, trolls

I can't remember when I found this site, but it just seems, even now, like a nice idea in theory. It's a huge community where you can ask a question and receive answers. I don't think it's really all that great in practice, though. I've used this a few times and often I've seen my question pass through the pages, never to be answered. Also, people on here seem to get a lot of joke answers from trolls, which are obviously not very helpful either. Sometimes I have asked questions and have gotten good quality, helpful answers, but more often than not the answers I have received have been very poor indeed.

However, there are some nice people on here who I have asked to elaborate upon their answers I did not prior find helpful and this has worked out. I think you can't really review the 'helpfulness' of this site because it relies solely on the community there, which is hugely mixed. There are a lot of people who genuinely want to help and give insightful answers but then there are a lot of trolls and a lot of people who just give one word answers who are really not useful at all.

It is interesting to browse though because I like to read answers and realise there's a lot of people who have asked questions I myself wanted to ask. There are a lot of interesting oddities to be found on this site which is great. It's very easily navigated. I don't think it's very good for research of any kind but if just for just a little lighthearted curiosity, it is definitely a good website.

Summary: Good if you don't take it too seriously
