Yahoo questions/answers is an extension of the regular Yahoo site with its news, search etc.

How is it different? Well, it allows you to ask a question about anything in the world e.g. 'how many words does the average adult know?'

If you use search engines like google a lot, you'll notice that if you ask a random question, Yahoo Answers will often be the first site that comes up (or perhaps the American version at yahoo.com).

However, the important thing to remember is that anone can answer the question, and so answers may be of limited use or accuracy. If there are a series of replies saying the same thing, there's a good chance that's the answer. However, some people just google (or yahoo) around to find the most likely answer, which isn't helpful - especially if a search engine is where you've just come from! I searched for the release date of Peep Show series 6 the other day and the information there was pretty useless. So it can be a bit hit and miss and does depend on what you're asking.

You can also rate other people's responses to the question which increases the value considerably. However, I personally find it generally quite depressing as there are usually millions of typos, uninformed responses and 'im nt sure lolz.............' to sift through.

Can be useful, but not always.
