My problem was with their terms and conditions. 123.reg do not make their terms and conditions clear at the payment checkout or on their website when you purchase hosting with them. I assumed that I had paid using my credit card securely and that my services would last for two years as sold. When they were due to expire I cancelled my services in my hosting user panel over a month before they were due to expire. However, somehow they had kept my credit card details without my permission and had used them to auto renew the services I'd cancelled. I was refused a refund and had to cancel my bank card. So I've lost money. Their terms and conditions are not clear and apparently you can only cancel by phone- yet they do not give out a phone number on their website.
Have been using them for 10+ years
At first the service was good. I had no need to contact support during the first 9 years and I was happy.
Then about a year ago, I started to have problems that required me to contact support.
The response was slow and unhelpful. There have been multiple service outages which usually takes them a long time to fix and then offer no explanation or apology.
Have been hit with another outage on Friday and I've been 3 days without email. When I can get a response I've been fobbed off with lame excuses.
I can accept that every organisation has the odd technical blip, what I can't accept is that they pay lip service to customer service and in reality treat their customers like something they trod in.
What's worse is that I used to recommend them to my customers, they must have had dozens of referrals out of me over the years.
I will be leaving them today and not only will I not recommend them to anyone else going forwards, but I will suggest to anyone using them that they consider moving elsewhere.
These people will only understand how atrocious their service is if you vote with your feet.
Due to this company's incompetence our web site and e-mail server has now been down for over one week. They first tried to blame us but we have documentary evidence that we are in no way to blame. They claimed we had not paid our bills in time but their own web site confirms that we have paid up to November 2013!
To avoid blame and find an excuse they just lied about our failure to pay in time.
At this point our web site and e-mail accounts are still down despite having been promised repeatedly that they would be restored. This costs us a serious amount of money in terms of lost business opportunities and inconvenience
I would not only NOT recommend them but I would say stay away from them at all costs. I would also mistrust all positive reviews about them as extremely dodgy. It is possible emplyees of this company have posted those.
I have had the problem of 123-reg automatically taking money from a Paypal account to the point that I had to block them from Paypal, which created other problems for me as it was viewed as violation of my account.
In this case I had taken a trial of a product that was painful to use in contrast to competitor products, and then to my surprise at the end of the trial (I 'trialed' it for around half an hour) I was charged for the next 2 months.
After all of the fuss with Paypal and what I thought was a cancelled service (they were forced to refund me), they sent me another reminder two months later and pointed out that I should update my bank details.
BUT the most annoying thing is their practice of notifying you of payments pending on a Friday evening, with the only option to cancel being a phone call by the account holder, which of course you also have to pay for, by Monday at the earliest. Cynical?
I would strongly advise anyone thinking of using 123-reg to stay well away at all costs, cynical practice and shoddy products (their e-commerce facility is a joke).

First experience with 123-reg today and I am very happy. Competitive domain price and incredibly fast and professional live-chat customer service. I also like the user-friendly interface of the control panel.

I had an issue while transferring in a domain from another registrar. I posted support request and actually ignored the response that came only an hour later because I assumed anything that quick would be a formula response telling me how important my happiness is to them. In fact it was a message from Kiranpeet explaining the error and that he'd manually modified the records. Everything fixed. It's an example of how a customer can feel better after something has gone wrong and then been fixed than if it had never gone wrong at all.
Haven't been with them for long, but they have online support (like an instant-messenger) which is very useful and helpful.
I am a new customer to 123-reg and they've been great so far. I needed them to do something with the domain for weebly and they sorted it the same day, no problems. Very pleased, as I was expecting hassle, delays etc!
I have been using 123-Reg for a very long time with a number of different clients.
I have always found the service received to be above what you get from your average Registrar/Hosting company. They go above and beyond to make sure you are getting the service you pay for!
Setup is easy and very intuitive with their control panel, unlike some hosts I have used. Not mentioning any names, restrict what you can do with DNS configuration but make it easy to take out and setup their own mail systems for a cost. But when wanting to create your own specific records they don't allow this. I have had to transfer clients domains from these hosts to 123-Reg to avoid having to setup independent DNS servers.
The support is second to none. As an example they have provided ample amount of configuration support to me for an unmanaged service.

I have been using 123-reg to host domain names for several years and have only good things to say. I have also recently purchased a VPS and an SSL certificate from them, both have been great.
Since I first started using 123-reg I have been doing a Computer Science degree so I have been doing my fair share of advanced DNS configuration as well as setting up and securing my new 123-reg VPS.
123-reg today also updated their reverse DNS record on one of my domain names to my new hostname on my VPS which I have also purchased through 123-reg in order to stop my emails being sent to spam folders. This was brilliant and means I can continue to use my new hostname.
I have recently switched VPS from Webfusion (their parent company) to 123-reg to take advantage of CentOS6 and cPanel at a great price. It's hosted in England which means low latency and support during working hours. Both VPS's are in the same location and uptime has been very good with only 2 small blips.
Whenever I have had any support queries I have had a clear response that has answered the question straight away.
Their abuse department also looked through some evidence of portscanning.
All in all a great experience so far.
I had a problem renewing my domain, the domain was held in my current host account and could not get access to renew my domain, 123-reg team were very supportive and helpfull right through the process to transfer my domain name to my own account and managed to renew my domain before it ran out, this matter was resolved in a matter of two days.
I recently designed a basic web page and needed it to be pointed at by my domain. Consequently the domain I had at the time would not allow access to the domain settings without paying a fee to manage the domain settings. This fee was payable annually at a cost of approximately £20. I was not happy with this so I decided to transfer my domain to 123-reg.co.uk, which provides myriads of web functions. The transfer was completed seamlessly. I then needed to point it to my website on another domain, the help pages to accomplish this were excellent I studied them but was still unsure of a few points to complete the pointing. I contacted 123 Reg.co.uk and pointed out my position and what I needed to be achieved. I asked them if they could give me further help or could they complete the pointing on my behalf, if I supplied the details.
To my great satisfaction 123-reg.co.uk completed the task for me, more or less immediately at no cost.
The service I enjoyed from the support team was second to none. I will be with this company permanently.
