Probably the worst hosting company online (123-reg.co.uk)

Advantages: cheap(ish)

Disadvantages: unreliable, awful transfer rates, no support, incompetent staff, no refunds

I find it hard to believe there is a worse hosting company online than 123-reg.

Domain registration seems ok, but when it come to hosting, the service is terrible.

I suffered the following problems during the 3 months I used their hosting services:

Every 15 minutes for around 1-2 minutes the HTTP server was offline. (that’s only 90% uptime) This occurred at 2, 17, 32 and 47 minutes past every hour.

There were many days (at least 5) where my site was totally offline for an extended period.

The system clock was around 10 minutes slow

FTP download is capped at 10KB/s

Transfer rates often no higher than 200 bytes/s

There are no extra services, PERL modules minimal and everything is very basic.


Out of at least 20 emails that I sent notifying 123-reg of faults I received only one response in 2 months and all they had done was fix the system clock. - not even acknowledgment of the other faults!

The SLA in place is clearly not upheld, they will not even respond to any email requesting a refund. I'm sure this must be illegal!?

I got so fed up in the end I went elsewhere and am still waiting for a response to my complaints.
