Advantages: I'll pass on that
Disadvantages: You'll get fleeced left, right and centre - and get treated like dirt
123-reg.co.uk are crooks. To be more accurate, their "parent" company, webfusion, are crooks. I registered one of my first domain names with them and visited their website, using the web address mentioned in their advert - which cited domains for 99p (plus vat and nic fees. I followed their link and placed my order. That was that - until I got an invoice for £46.99. Naturally, I complained and after being fed b*** s*** from the company (who only responded to emails that we CC'd to the magazine I saw the advert from), several weeks later I got a refund of SOME of the overcharge. At no point was there an indication that I would be charged this amount as opposed to what was actually charged. A couple of weeks later, I received an email stating that unless I paid £35.25 within seven days, they would suspend my service (they already done this BEFORE they sent this email). To say that this is a bit naughty is an understatement. Since I started threatening these crooks with legal action, I have been informed by friends that the site navigation has been changed, in other words, a "warning" is presented about what you will pay. I can't confirm as I have not looked at their site and I doubt I ever will. If someone else can be spared the trouble these crooks have caused, then good. There are plenty of other companies out their who can offer these services (a domain name which points to your ISP's free web space, for instance) - but if you get an indication that the company is trading from Beeston (Nottingham), then it is likely that it is one of parent Webfusion's "illigitimate" "children". It is siad that online fraud accounts for five percent of all online transactions - but how many of these frauds are committed by companies such as this? UPDATES - judging by the reply received from them and their unwillingness to resolve the matter amicably, they've obv
iously got my account flagged for maximum harassment. My business assosiate received a telephone call (gormless cow Lisa didn't have the guts to speak to me) saying that the matter was "resolved" and "a letter to confirm...". when it eventually arrived, I was presented with more b*** s***, including the idiotic line of "...it only takes a phone call to us...". So, it looks like at least every month I am going to have to run my telephone bill up to stop all these demands for payment that I do not owe these scumbags and never will due to their deliberate incompetence. Looks like another trip to the courts is in order.

- 20/03/01 Why don't you get the details of the Company Directors and send them all a copy of this opinion? I bet you will get a better response (if they want to continue trading that is) I have been a Company Director and believe me, knowing the liability Directors have I would certainly make it my business to compensate you for your trouble. Good luck! |
