Advantages: I thought there were loads ... but ????
Disadvantages: I'm not sure now
Well, that will teach me not to rely on one opinion and read all other opinions about the same company wont it !! I wrote the opinion below this afternoon because I was pleased as punch with "my" new domains, now though I'm not so sure ... and you will have to read the others yourself to understand why I say that. What I've done though is leave my original letter as it was but added this bit and the bit at the moment. Obviously as I find out more I'll update it accordingly. ********** I only found about this company after reading a review on them on Dooyoo by the "anarchistkid" so first off I'd like to say thanks to him because otherwise I would have still been left with the false impression that buying a domain name was an expensive business. This misconception was based on the only other experience I have had of buying a domain name where my home page domain cost me £99 ! So anyway, 123-reg, is as far as I can see a cheap and easy way to get yourself a domain name ........ or two or three (like I ended up doing !) I?ll go through the above one at a time. First of all the cost is quite cheap as far I?m concerned, I know there is some reviewers on here that have complained that the adverts are misleading but from what I could see it was plain enough what the costs were. Like I said earlier I havent had a lot of experience in buying domains so I cant really compare them like for like but I think £5.78 + VAT for 2 years for a .co.uk domain is excellent value. As for easy, I was gobsmacked at how simple the process actually was. Once you have joined you basically stick in the domain name your interested in and if it is available bingo, you stick it in your basket and try another one. If it isn't available it gives you other options such s .net, .com etc. Once you have got all the domains you want you simply proceed onto the next step where the total
cost is shown to you, if your happy with this you simply accept the charges and your finished. Of course you have to give them your credit card details which does put a lot of people off but that's a risk you just have to take nowadays if you want to grab some bargains, this particular transaction went through OK and I soon had a confirmation invoice received into my inbox. Anyway, I dont know exactly how long it took for my domains to go live because I only got access to the internet the next night but they were there waiting for me, they were of course directed to a 123-reg advert page which I didnt really have a problem with because it was a doddle to redirect them to the site I wanted them to go to. The above was done via a control panel on the 123-reg site where you had the choice of directing your domains traffic to either a holding page or any other address you fancied, to change the set up of this took me literally seconds. Sure enough the next time I entered my new domain name it opened up on my existing sites. Incidentally they do offer a hosting service and apologies for not giving you any details on this but I did not even bother checking out as I am happy with my current service. As you can see the above is so straightforward and I can not believe there has been so many negative comments made about this company, of course I have only just got these particular domain names so perhaps I'm in for some nasty surprises later ? At the end of the day though its's only £7 we're talking about for the 2 years and as long as I dont end up getting stitched on my card details I cant really see how I can lose out. ********** So thats what I originally thought, but after reading the other reviews tonight I'm now a bit concerned so if anyone can tell me how I go about checking whether these domains are registered properly I would really appreciate it. Cheers.
