“ 4chan is an image-based bulletin board where anyone can post comments and share images. „
Just as a warning, due to the openness of the site, naturally it is highly pornographic and extremely unsuitable for under 18s.
This website can be one or more of the following things - hilarious /disgusting /sickening /scary /shocking /funny. The main focus on this site is the /b/ (Random) image board, where most of the content resides, and also the home of the funniest and sickest material. The site has a nice, simplistic design with a choice of 4 'skins' or themes. This site has also started, in my opinion, some of the internet's funniest gimmicks and ideas, known there as 'memes'. In fact, 4chan seems to have invented it's own language to use, with words such as '/b/tard', 'rickrolled' and many others being frequently used there, and people expected to know what they all mean. Nowadays, the moderators of 4chan, one named 'moot', keep a very tight leash on any illegal content posted, normally child pornography, and this, if ever encountered, will be deleted within seconds.
On the whole however, 4chan is an excellent image board website and can keep you entertained for hours on end.
Before I start this review, I think it is very important to mention that you should read this review, or another article before visiting the site.
4Chan.org is an message board website launched on the 1st of October, 2003 by a 15 year old American student. It is split into sections including 'Japanese Culture', 'Interests', 'Adult', 'Creative', 'Other' and 'Misc(18+)', all of which are subdivided into boards, of which there are 44. Each board has a different topic, including Sports, Weapons, Music and 'Sexy Beautiful Women'.
Each board uses the same method of posting and viewing the material, generally someone posts an image and writes something to do with it, and other people reply. 4chan does not require people to sign up, so most of the general population is made up of people who do not sign up, and refer to themselves and each other as 'Anonymous'.
/b/, or the random board is one of the most famous boards on 4chan, and is responsible for many memes, including 'lolcats', demotivational posters and Rickrolling (The act of tricking someone into watching Rick Astleys' 'Never Gonna Give You Up'). As well as this, /b/ is home to 'Anonymous' who are responsible for many DDOS attacks on other websites, and 'Project Chanology', which is where Anonymous decided it didn't like The Church Of Scientology so planned 'raids' and just generally trolled them.
4chan can be quite useful, there is a lot of information on all of the boards about interesting things, and generally through using these boards you can find a lot of links to other things which you may find interesting. Unfortunately 4chan is not the most present website on the internet, in fact, it is far from it. If you are to view 4chan, stay away from all of the 18+ pages, and still expect to see some unpleasant images and / or comments. When viewing boards for 18+ be very cautious, any boards which are 18+ will contain obscene and distasteful images.
I find that 4chan has a lot of interesting topics and information on subjects which I'm interested in, and I find a lot of amusing pictures. Fortunately for myself I am not fazed by the content, but many people are - so beware if you are going to try this site out. Also I advise putting anything that could lead to you on the website, as it has been known for people to abuse this.
