Ok, some of you have been asking about a dooyoo league for the world's greatest fantasy football game, premierleague.com/fantasyfootball, of which yours truly is pretty good at, finishing first or second in the dooyoo league every year. The original dooyoo/ciao league hasn't materialized this year (or I have been thrown out because I ... keep doing well in it!) and so new challengers are needed. Sadly I can't find the manager and the code for that league right now and so I have made a new one. It you want to join in and knock me off my perch then this is the code for the game. We need you to join now to make it a good one.
The new code - 1368957-304629
The premeirleague.com game is great fun and although it's been dumbed down slightly this year with less sophisticated player values and the extra wildcard to keep more players interested when they get too far back to catch up but its still good fun. Its essential entertainment for the winter and any ages can enter. It's great for dads to bond with sons as you see who knows more about football and mums can also play - after they have done the household chores and put the dinner on mind.
-Entering-
You go to the website before the season starts and enter your team. It takes as long as you want it to. You can change your whole side without penalty right up until the 11:30 am deadline on Saturday August 14th. The website can get very busy around transfer deadlines so best to be ready by Friday night. There is no fee to join or during the game, 100% free. All you need is an email address. If you enter more than one team its ok, as long as one of your team doesn't make it into the top 500 in the whole league. If this happens and the game organizers find out they throw you out of the game. It happened to one of the guy in one of my leagues. You can enter as many teams as you like in the dooyoo league.
http://fantasy.premierleague.com/
-Points-
The scoring is fairly simple. You get points for goals, assists, and clean sheets and there's a weekly bonus point pool. You lose points if your team concedes goals or gets yellow or red cards.
-Leagues-
You can form your own leagues with friends or be invited into others. Each league has a small message board and your team info will give access to where you stand in the main league and various statistics on how things are going for the season.
-Prizes-
There are none, the strange appeal of the game, punters entering purely to be the best. Real life players, referees, coaches and teams from all over the world join members of the public to play the as you put yourself up against the best. They also do a weekly FA Cup knockout trophy in January to encourage players to stick around who may be tailing off in their leagues.
-Buying Players-
Obviously the big names in the big teams are the most expensive and will bite into your one hundred million budget. The most expensive players are around 12 million and the cheapest below five million. You have to buy four substitutes from the budget and so the game not dumbed down like others where you tend to be able to buy eleven good players and so no real skill involved. With this game it's the ability to pick mid or lower priced players that will score well that will make the difference. You will also need to use your bench players as they automatically enter the playing team to score points if one of your first and declared eleven are injured or dropped. There is also a captain option where you get double the points for the guy you nominate each week.
-Transfers-
You are allowed one transfer per week and any additional transfer will cost you four points off your accumulated score the following week. Those four points add up over the season. I make far too many transfers. Try to hold off as long as you can as players tend to get injured in the week. There is nothing worse than having to transfer someone out you just bought in. The game also offer two wildcards a season where you ca change your whole team at once for no extra penalty. Right up until the match deadline the wildcard stays fluid so you can keep making the changes until you're happy with your new side. That's your first tip from me as not every player knows that the wildcard is that flexible.
-Tips-
Best not to have an expensive bench as one sub coming on is the norm and so the other three guys just taking money out of your front eleven. Use your wildcards wisely, especially good for double match weeks where postponed games are tacked on to regular match weeks and so players bought in score twice or, very occasionally, three times. Always leave your transfer late to cover likewise injuries and checkout football and sport websites for inside information on those injuries. A great one to use is the fantasy sports home of fiso.co.uk, a site set up specifically to help fantasy sports players get ahead in the games by information sharing, the prizes in the newspaper games fairly big and so professional players aplenty out there.

What a great game. You sit down to watch a match between two teams to whom you have no connection other than them being on your fantasy team and suddenly you are involved in the match because your striker just won't score or your midfielder just got booked. More on exactly what the means coming up soon. Fantasy league brings football ... alive for the fan. Not every match, at least in my opinion, is necessarily worth watching but fantasy league connects you just about every premier league match being played. It will have you shouting at the telly and ruing that stupid penalty miss or worst of all that unnecessary red card which has just seen your uncle and friend both overtake you on two different fantasy team leagues.
I have been playing premierleague fantasy football now for about four seasons and at until this season it was very addictive. I think the catalyst for my apathy towards my team has been moving to university but because the game is so good I will no doubt get back into it next season.
How does it work and what are the rules?
First you must sign up which is a very simple and quick process. Better to do this before the season starts and then you can join the other two million users to try and become the fantasy football champion. Once you have signed up at the start of the season then you move onto the highly important kit selection and team name which are entered before you then move onto the part you have been thinking about all summer. Analysis of the promoted teams and transfers is already done. The time has come to pick your team. You have a budget of one hindered million (so not the man City squad), in fact only three players from the same team allowed. The one hundred million budget must be divided between two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders and three strikers. There is no going over this budget, no deficits allowed here. You are right, that is fifteen players, and you always have four substitutes.
There are unlimited transfers until the deadline which marks the start of the new season.
From now until the end of the season it is all about your strategy and forward thinking which trust me does play an important role as the same people always win and undoubtedly you do need a slice of luck as well.
Each week you are allowed one free transfer unless you do not transfer one week in which case in the following week you have two free transfers. This is not accumulative, the maximum free transfers allowed is two in any given week. That is unless you use the one-a-season wildcard which allows you to have one chance to change everything you want about your team. Be wise as to when you use this treasure. The transfer process is very simple just click on transfers in the left hand column click someone out and then click someone in. This will be something you will get in no time.
Also you must choose a captain. The captain earns double points so make sure he firstly plays consistently, that much is obvious but more importantly that he is in good form. Of perhaps less importance but still worth noting is who his next opposition are. If for some reason your captain does not play then an emergency captain can be selected either on form or price. You choose which selection method is used.
The Competitive parts that make it so exciting
Fantasy Leagues - Get some mates together and form a league. This would be a private league with an administrator who can allow only people he/she knows to join. The administrator also has the power to exclude participants. There are also public leagues that can be joined by anyone. Private leagues also have forums which can be a fun feature to add spice to the competition, although if you have regular contact with the people in the league there is little use for it really.
Fantasy Cup - This starts in Gameweek 19 and is a knockout competition. I got knocked out in the first round this year rather embarrassingly. It was made all the worse by the fact that the guy who knocked me out had done only two transfers all season. I guess I will live though and actually my team is in the top tenth of the world on cumulative/overall score.
The Scoring System
You get points for:
Keeper keeping a clean sheet
Defender keeping a clean sheet
Midfielder/Clean sheet
Assist (all positions) - defenders get more
Goal (all positions) - defenders get more
Playing more than 60 minutes
Bonus points - never really understood how this works. Just have to play well I guess. Can get 1,2 or 3 bonus points.
Lose points for:
Penalty miss
Yellow/red card
For more on the scoring system and on the rules in general look on the fantasy premierleague site.

Israel Sports Radio

This is officially review no.50 for me..... I've reached the big five zero......does that mean I can start reviewing Saga products??. Well for my fiftieth I am going to share with you Dooyooers a wee slice of my life .....IsraelSportsRadio.com - The ONLY sports internet radio station in the crazy place that ... is the Middle East.
Now the reason this is part of my life is because every Monday 3-5pm GMT, I co host a world soccer show - cheesily named, On The Volley. Apparently I always had the face for radio...or so my mother continually insisted on telling me anyway..... So I guess it was only a matter of time before my awful London-cum-Hertfordshire accented tones hit the airwaves, albeit on the t'interweb.
IsraelSportsRadio is the brainchild of three American born sports fans living in Israel. Two; Andy and Ari were presenters of an American Sports Radio show whilst Josh was a sports blogger. The guys live and breathe sports....much to the dismay of their very tolerant families..... And saw that Israel with its incredibly eclectic mix of people lacked an English speaking outlet in sports. Heads came together, literally too I hear, and on Oct 4th of this year IsraelSportsadio.com burst onto the internet with more bang than Cilit Bang.
Broadcasting from 2pm -10pm GMT the station has something for everyone..... Unless of course you are only into Lacrosse, Tiddlywinks and Eton fives; as yet no shows on those... but there are fitness, hiking, rugby and cricket, football and a plethora of American Sports shows of to keep you entertained. My involvement came into being after replying to an ad.... Obviously once the guys saw my face...the radio face... they took me on and the rest as they say is history.... Its been going for a couple of months now and its doing ok... It's a lot of fun to do and keeps me busy and out of real trouble for at least afternoon a week. I absolutely love football.. And one of the hardest parts about moving from the UK to Israel was giving up my season ticket at Spurs... and sods law it is the one that Spurs have had the most successful season in living memory. As I will quite happily chat all things football with anyone, anytime....its a bonus to get paid for it... well... I say paid.... Whilst it's still in its infancy there is no financial reward to this adventure, but I do get to eat as many chocolate wafers as I can find littered around the studio. It's also a bonus as Im now an accredited sports journalist which can get me into VIP for any football games in Israel. However I can't bring myself to go and cheer for another team... I can't do that to Spurs...it's like cheating on your beloved partner...especially when she has never looked as hot as she does now...... it just wouldn't feel right. Ive also got to interview a few players - and I still feel like a 9 year getting an autograph when I speak to heroes of mine....very professional I know!
If you love American sports this is for you.... Enough talk there to keep the lovers of baseball, basketball and American football merrily entertained. Check the schedule on www.israelsportsradio.com, obviously look out for On The Volley every Monday 3-5pm GMT - (yes, unashamed plug - my pride went years ago.) and if you like to talk football do get involved on 0203 051 6221 - free I think... Anyhoo... check out the website, click the listen live button and enjoy some good ol' fashioned sports talk. There are listen again facilities for you to enjoy if you missed a show and I hope you give it a go.
