A round a month ago, top US Web community About.com linked up with Spedia.net to bring out their own SurfBar. The whole thing is a 'clone' of the Spedia Bar, but you can have seperate accounts and both bars - although not on screen at the same time. The good thing about the About Bar is that they GUARANTEE to pay 50c per hour for your unlimited surfing - the best guraranteed rate around. But there are strings. About.spedia.net (I'll call it About for the duration of this article) is basically the same as Spedia. The make no secret of this - they have nothing to be ashamed of, but the problem is, I think people would rather them sort out their actual bar than make lots of new subsidary paid to surf companies. Don't get me wrong, spedia pay the best and they will be the best for a long time, and Im only too pleased to see them expand into other areas, but the thing is, although you can have parallel accounts (one on both Spedia and About), most people would accumulate cash in one account, as they payout for unlimited hours.
