Right folks, It’s getting on for the time that all you students, researchers, tutors and educators are getting back to your various places of learning, or teaching, as the case may be ! You know me by now, I constantly trawl the Net looking for the top web sites and I personally rate academicinfo.net amongst one of the best of the available genre, having the maximum wealth and breadth of well informed reference material. O.K. It’s U.S. orientated, but nevertheless, the content on site is truly global in nature, and well worth a visit. I have had good cause to visit this site on many occasions, and, as they say, it works for me ! Their mission in life is to be the “Premier educational gateway to online college and research level Internet resources” and although the target audience is the college and university community, the subject guides can be of very good use to high school students and general research users as well. Academicinfo could be described as the definitive " white pages " to the academic community, and is well worth putting in your favourites, as you just never know when you’ll need them ! The site has been up and running since 1998, and is classified as an "Independent Internet Subject Directory" which is compiled and maintained by an American gent known as Mr Mike Madin who recently left the University of Washington-Gallagher Law Library to focus his attentions solely on academicinfo, bringing you the best, most - up to date content, currently available. They have no actual commercial sponsorship, but rely solely on advertising revenue to remain online, so be prepared for some visual advertising, but as you would expect, the site is extremely well thought out, well organised and well presented. On visiting the site you’ll find a veritable treasure trove of information. There are many categories for yo
u to explore including : Architecture, where you will find many sub-categories and links to items such as : Environmental studies, General Science and Technology in relation to Architecture, Architectural Organisations and Societies and links to Architectural databases and Journals, just to give you and idea of how comprehensive this site is. Also on-site, you will find similarly, well laid out categories and links to : The Arts, Business Administration, The Digital Library, Engineering topics, Law & Government, Health & Medicine, the Humanities, and Science in General, just to name a few ! But wait - There’s more, so much more. There’s enough information on this site to wear your eyes out. There are special categories covering : Economics, Law, and Legal Research issues, Patents and Matters concerning ‘Intellectual properties’ related to patents, and there are sections dealing with Tax Law, albeit U.S orientated, but nevertheless very useful, and Economic History and don’t forget Social and Political Science, especially if you’ve been reading ‘briggers’ op’s on dooyoo recently :-) In addition, there’s an excellent search engine on-site and a very useful A to Z ‘Subject Index’ where you will find such access to such diverse subjects as : Human Rights, The Human Genome Project, Internet Search Engines, Irish History, Maps and Mathematics and there’s a very interesting ‘Student Centre’ which is well worth a visit. All up, this has got to rank as one of the best combined reference sites on the net for both students and educators alike, and I am sure you will want to refer to it as your one-stop reference point, time and time again as I often doo ! http://www.academicinfo.net Your “Gateway” to Quality Educational Resources auldmac
