If you are a fan of adventure games then this is the website for you. The Adventure Gamers website is the definitive website for adventure games with news, reviews and previews, a blog, forums and even an online shop.
I was introduced to adventure games in the 1980's when I had a Commodore 64 and the humble text adventure games (now also known as "interactive fiction") such as Zork and Wishbringer were my adventure games of choice. When the "point & click" graphic adventure games emerged I moved onto playing them (though never forgetting the classic Infocom text adventures). Games such as Monkey Island (now revived!), the first of the Broken Sword series, Discworld, In The 1st Degree, Normality, Police Quest, Titanic: Adventure Out of Time, Zork Grand Inquisitor, etc were my adventure games of choice in the 1990's. Game play and graphics have very much improved in the past decade making the adventure gaming experience much better, and, much to the delight of seasoned gamers around the world, some classics are coming back with this improved game play and graphics. WHat's even better is that Nintendo are making adventure games available on the Wii and DS.
The Adventure Gamers website keeps us up-to-date with the latest games by providing interesting and detailed reviews and previews complete with a range of screenshots from the games. Reviews include a panel showing the pros & cons of a game and a verdict with a score out of 5 stars. Website visitors can also leave comments on reviews (by logging into a free account), so you get more than one opinion. Another panel shows games information including who the developer & publisher are, perspective (e.g. Third-person), platform (PC, Wii etc) and theme (Horror, Historical etc).
The Previews keep us informed of what adventure games are soon to be released. This section often has me wanting to buy games, only to find I'll have to wait a while yet before I can! The previews often include screenshots and trailers, and leave you wanting more. I've just been reading a preview for Heavy Rain, a game that looks and sounds fantastic, but won't be out until early next year and only then on a PS3 (which I don't have!) - However, for those gamers with a PS3 who love adventure games (which isn't really what the PS3 was made for) will probably consider this a match made in heaven!
The News section gives us an idea of what's being released or in production, again with the ability for readers to leave comments. This website is where I found out all about the comeback of the Monkey Island series... Everyone I know who's played a Monkey Island game has loved it, so it's definitely a game to try, even if you've never played an adventure game before.
The Staff Blog brings us the thoughts of the Adventure Gamers staff. The latest post (as of 5th September) is about the cross-over of games & movies never really panning out. Thoughts of gaming conventions and technology also get a look in here.
The Adventure Gamers forum gives website visitors a place to vent their gaming frustrations, thoughts, feelings, requests, hints and tips. It's a popular forum with 111 users active on the forum as I write this.
Now, having read through reviews, previews and news, you would hope there is somewhere on the website where you can buy these games... and there is! The Adventure Gamers online shop enables you to buy & download many adventure games to your PC. Adventure games are primarily played on PCs, but now with Nintendo's Wii and DS systems they are getting more common place in the console market too. If you wish to buy games for anything other than a PC (or would prefer to buy the game disk rather than download) then you'll need to note down what game you want and go & buy it elsewhere (such as Amazon so you can use your Dooyoo Amazon vouchers!). However, it is quick & easy to buy & download games through the Adventure Gamers website.
There is much more to the Adventure Gamers website than what I've mentioned here, but if you're interested in adventure games then I would recommend you add this website to your favourites. I visit it on a regular basis to keep up with release news and reviews & previews of games. These days, if there's an adventure game that I want to buy I've usually found it on the Adventure Gamers website in the first place or I've go to the website to see what they've thought of it.
The website looks great and is easy to navigate and find what you're after. No other gaming website touches this website for reviews, detail and information. Why not check it out?
