Advantages: Updated frequently, keeps up with movie world
Disadvantages: Harry 'influenced' a bit too much
There are a lot of film websites out here on the Internet. Ranging from the personal homepages to the more professional sites. AICN falls in-between the two, its got a team behind making it less personal but it doesn’t fall into the professional category because it does have a very personal look and style to it. AICN is run by Harry Knowles who, as the years go by has grown into a bit of a celebrity, which has come as a bit of a problem lately, which will be discussed later. The website has a very 'made at home' look, which is nice and refreshing and makes a change from other websites. However sometimes the layout and style can get annoying especially when he writes film names IN ALL CAPITALS it can get irritating after a while. The website's main advantage is that it does have some good news to display and some exclusive news that other websites don't get up until a while later. There is also a lot of news on the website, containing news on movies past, present and feature, special reports and also a DVD/TV section of the site. Also, another good thing, is the fact that the website is updated a lot each day, keeping up with current events The news is a very mixed bag. It can be excellent at times, getting some good points across and done in a fun, chatty way. But sometimes it gets just *too* chatty. Sometimes it takes until halfway down the page before a review of the film in question really starts. Harry seems to preoccupied in discussing who rang him up to see the screening, how he got there, what the room he saw it in was like and past movies. Now background knowledge is good but too much can get overwhelming. Also, coming back to the point made earlier Harry's new found status is also a problem. As mentioned earlier he can be very influenced by the big bosses of films who wine and dine him. As pointed out in some opinions here he got a role in The Faculty, now it is a good film b
ut no way as good or as breathtaking as Harry sees fit to point out. This makes the reader having to take reviews with a pinch of salt. AICN is losing its image of 'coolness' now than what it used to have when it started. Thanks to the popularity it has become more mainstream and, although still unique, it doesn’t seem as special any more. This is not a bad site, stick with it and it can hold a few nice surprises and the content can be good but it’s not as good as Harry would like you to think
