Advantages: Good payrates to begin. Free money

Disadvantages: Website has closed down. Payrates have dropped.

I orginally joined AllAdvantage when it was one of the first pioneering 'Pay To Surf' schemes available. Since that time there have been many changes, the most notable being the fact that they have now closed down.

As a poor student I was determined to find a way to make a little bit of extra cash. I heard about AllAdvantage and thought that this may be a useful scheme when surfing the net. I signed up, downloaded the adbar and surfed as normal. At the time I was earning approximately 30p per hour for active surfing. The hours soon clocked up and I eventually received a cheque after approximately 4 months. OK, it may not have been a very large cheque but it was certainly better than nothing and it was in UK currency too.

After I had received my cheque I was happy to have been paid for doing very little. I continued to use the service but I then started to receive emails from AllAdvantage stating changes to their policies. The number fo hours they paid dropped as did the payment rates - it eventually dropped to only 7p per hour. The payment threshold also increased to £35 which would take several years to accumulate - it defeats the whole object of the scheme by doing so!!

Anyway prior to Xmas 2000 I had reached my payment threshold so I was looking forward to another cheque. My account was zeroed and I waited for my cheque. Nothing came through for several months. During this time I emailed the customer services department without reply. However, at the end of February I received my cheque but in US dollars - still better than nothing. However, weeks later the service has been withdrawn - or so we assume. I have not received any confirmation from AllAdvantage but as their website is completely absent I guess that this has all to an end.

It may have been quite good while it lasted. I ended up making about £50 for nothing so I can't really complain. However, you have to question whether other schemes will be able to
continue if a giant such as AllAdvantage is unable to carryout their promises.
