Premium Review ask.co.uk: It's time to crank it up, or give up. (260 words)

Ask used to be at the bottom of the pile, Google and Yahoo were storming out in front, pulling in the users and growing like mad. Now Ask is trying to get back in the game, but for me, I think it's had it's day. Unfortunately I never really found that Ask found the right answers to my questions, however a few searches just now, and I can see things have improved, it's just a shame I'm happy with something else. The downside to Ask is that it is now trying too hard. Time after time software applications are asking me if I would like to install an Ask toolbar, the answer is always no, and it's frustrating that they manage to get in through the ...  Read the complete review

Ask.co.uk ---Can it answer your question? ----------------------------------------------------- This site is built on a unique notion - A search engine which prompts you to ask a question and it is supposed to come up with the answer. This also provides related search result which is helpful in terms of getting a longer list of matching answers. The butler has done some smart work by enhancing the features by allowing you to put in your keywords for search, flexibility of using different skin for that extra zipper to the look and feel of the site (Polka Dots, James Bond & Timber Brume) are my personal favourites. I personally feel the site is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Asking for the hard sell (274 words)

I`ve not used Ask.co.uk very much recently, because I`ve just gotten plain fed up of their hard sell tactics. Yes I agree that companies need to turn a profit, but do they have to do it the way the people running ask.co.uk are doing it? The basic idea is that you ask a question in plain English, and you get a list of answers back. However, it the real world it doesn`t quite work like this. As an example of what happens, I tried asking the question "What should I do with a forged bank note". The replies included contact details for every bank I`ve ever heard of (or a few more besides), links to let you sign up for a current account with all ...  Read the complete review

ask.co.uk: Ask? Hardly... (121 words)

After using ask jeeves a few times, you begin to realise that it does not answer questions, but instead picks out specific words(normally nouns) and searches for them. although it gives a lot of results, the majority of them are things that you wont have been looking for. also, jeeves can only answer certain types of questions. it is unable to answer comparative questions, rhetorical questions, personal questions, "how much" questions, and u cant ask it to translate, so what does that leave you? the answer is very little. (i bet if you asked jeeves that he wudnt know.) i recommend that you stick to google, its a lot quicker and more precise. Later ...  Read the complete review
