Advantages: Cute graphics, educational, get reply to questions
Disadvantages: Some answers may be a bit too involved for younger kids
Questions, questions, questions! Kids always ask you something that you don't know the answer to don't they? I've found a few other sites that are quite useful when it comes to finding an answer to the unanswerable (but they tend to be for older children) this is one which younger kids can use themselves. Although after saying that, some of the answers can be a bit long winded. Dr Universe is a cute little cat who helps you find the answer to your question. The graphics are quite cutesy and colourful, so no boring home page here even though it's related to science in general. The site is actually run by the Washington State University News and Information Centre, so you know that you are going to get a knowledgeable answer. Some of the questions on there could be useful to older surfers too and are quite interesting ie. "Why do men have nipples? (!). "How do spiders stick to their webs?" "If the sea is salty because salt chemicals are washed into the sea by rivers, why are the rivers not salty?" If your question isn't listed, mail them and you'll receive a reply. They feature a new question every day, todays is "Why do Fireflies emit light?". There are quite a lot of links too to other science related sites,so if you can't find the answer your looking for and you can't be bothered to e-mail your question they'll help steer you in the right direction to find the solution. I visited this site a couple of years ago, forgot about it and have recently stumbled back across it, I'd forgotten how good it was. www.wsu.edu/DrUniverse/Contents.html (That's the only drawback, the site address is not very memorable
and you must make sure that the D,U and C are in capitals). Perhaps a lot easier just to book mark it on your first visit.
