Advantages: None really

Disadvantages: Expensive

This looks like the ideal solution for the struggling author so I was keen to get my manuscript together and click that 'submit manuscript' button. I started the process. It all looks very interesting as Authorlink says that it is a clearing house for editors, publishers, etc and offers work to a wide range of markets.

They also point out that they are a Vanity Publishing House and authors selected for publication are paid industry standard royalties. I filled in the mandatory application form.

THEN I DISCOVERED THE CATCH!

This isn't a free submission service. You have to complete the form and tell them all about your manuscript and submit it along with a fee. For 12 months on the site it costs $105 or you can opt for 6 months at $57. Presumably you pay this so that your work will be presented to prospective buyers in the huge market mentioned previously. That's not all. You also have to pay a set up fee of £20 if you require straightforward and an extra $10 if you want graphics.

This could end up being a very expensive exercise. Authors wishing to sell their work would do better buying a copy of the 'Writers and Artists Year Book' and submitting their own work to likely markets.

I think vanity publishing sucks - thanks for alerting us all to this one.
