Battrick is an online cricket managment game. This game is free to play and you can sign up via the sites homepage - battrick.org. Depending on how many players are waiting to join this may take a week or two to process you application. I have found this game to be really addictive here are the main aspects of the game

Your Squad

when you first sign up to the game you are instantly given a squad of players, my initial squad was 16 players. these players are not world beaters by any means and you only get them so that you can play matches straight away.

Some of the players will be ok for your team. These players are skilled in a variety of aspects. The skill areas are Stamina, Batting, Bowling, Fielding, WicketKepping, Consistancy and Concentration. The two cons are only required for the relevant primary skill of batting or bowling with concentraion required for batting.

The general consensus of players on the site is that players need to posses medicore stamina, with medicore Batting/bowling and Medicore Concentration/consistancy.

So my players arent good enough - what should I do?

You have a couple of options. Firstly, there is the transfer market. for a player of the above skills you should expect to pay about 10-20k. within the market you can seach for any player type by the relevant filters that you can apply.

Secondly you can train your players to do so you need to first hire a maximum of 10 coaches in the skill areas you wish to train. It is also best to only train players under the age of 21. Younger players primary skills train quicker. Older players train the concentration or consistancy far quicker then younger players.

A third option is to develop the youth academy. This option is the riskest as it may work, but then you may waste your money. You can develop a youth player from the youth academy and spend training sessions on him to develop his skills. you need to buy these sessions, but I believe that you get some free at the start of the game.

The Battrick week

I have been playing for 3 and a half seasons now. each season lasts about 20 weeks. Each week is composed of

A first class game lasting a maximum of 3 days. Each day has a maximum of 110 overs (Tuesday-Thursday)
A 50 over game against a team in your league (Friday)
Cup games/Friendlies (Sunday) - each team starts the season in the cup, but when you are knocked out you can arrange friendlies.

this season has seen the introduction of a twenty/twenty league competition. Following a change in the first class leagues, you play less First class game and this is replaced by 3 20/20 games every 3 weeks.

developing your ground

You can also develop your ground to accomodate your growing fan base. This of course costs money. The upgrades cost more depending which part of the ground you increase but this brings in valuable extra money so you can improve your team.

changing the pitch type

you can also change the pitch type to accomodate your team, or to exploit weaknesses in your opponents team. You have pitches which suit batsmen, spin bolwers and also fast bowlers. Or a pitch that suits an all round team.

Top tips for the game

When you sign up to the game, it is best following a few simple rules for a couple of weeks.

1) dont spend money - ie dont go and sign a player for 100k when you wont be able to afford him.
2) Hire your coaches so you can carry out training sessions
3) read the rules on the site which are developed to help all people
4) decide on your best team, but dont play the same team in all games as your players will become tired.
5) play friendlies - this will bring in a bit extra cash.

This a a free game to play over the internet, however you can also sign up to the game, but becoming a memeber doesnt give you an advantage, but just gives you extra features. I personally perfer to be a member, but it is not essential.

Overall this is a very good game that allows you to develop a poor team and make it into a decent one.
