Advantages: Great archive, constantly updated
Disadvantages: some material doesn't work in some parts of the UK
BBC Sport is perhaps one of the greatest resourceful sport websites in the world because of it's vast library of sports ranging from absolutely anything, from the better followed ones such as football, rugby union and cricket to the lesser followed ones (in the UK) such as Baseball, Equestrian and rowing.
The BBC Sport website is equipped with something for any sport fan. It has a fantastic selection of articles, media including video and sound. It has a large archive stretching back as far as 2000 and beyond which is great to browse through when you've got a few hours to kill. Whatever news stories are posted onto the website are written to a good standard within minutes of the story developing, giving you a first look at what's going on. Constantly being updated, it is of great use to anyone who's even just passing through, and by chance they stumble upon a great story that appears on the BBC Sport website.
I've been using the BBC Sport website for many years now, and have always been greatly satisfied by it. One of it's best features I reckon is the Live Text, where if there is a football match, snooker coverage or something like athletics going on, it is constantly updated with the latest goings on, making it useful for those who don't have Sky or can't watch whatever sports coverage for whatever reason.
I can't really say I've used every feature of the BBC Sport website as lately it has been updated a lot so there are a lot of new features such as live coverage of the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Unfortunately for me, some of these features don't work because similar to the iPlayer it says that I don't use the internet in the UK, even though I live in North Wales because of my Internet Service Provider. Anyhow the video and audio features that do work are great, there are always links to similar pages, often directing you towards the archives, maybe reliving a great sporting moment which has happened in the past.
I personally think that the BBC Sport website betters any of it's rivals such as Sky Sports or ITV Sport. Although the BBC doesn't have coverage rights to some aspects of Sport e.g. Champion's League Football, FA Cup et cetera, I feel that they do just as good a job as ITV or whoever at coverage, even though strictly speaking a majority of the BBC's coverage is text or audio. They have great employees that sit there throughout the night or day, whenever a sporting event is on, keeping you up to date with everything that's going on, and making you want to keep refreshing the page rather than moving on and trying to find a website that streams the match for free.
Overall I am very satisfied with the BBC Sport website. If you don't use it already, at least give it a try. It's a great source for all your sporting needs!
Summary: Betters any rival sporting website
