$94 turned into 94 cents - UPDATED (bepaid.com)

I signed up for BePaid in January and got quite a few referals too. The marketing at that time said "$20 - $120 per hour", and I must admit to being very skeptical.

When May then June passed without any changes to their site I just wrote them off as another pay-as-you-surf scam (like epipo, etc).

However, 3 weeks ago I received an email asking me to download the viewbar and get ready for some adverts. I was surprised to hear from them but thought, why not.

The first advert you'll see is a promo for the BePaid advertising engine, it only earns you $0.25 but is worth watching. It uses Shockwave and is pretty impressive - I know if I were an advertiser I would certainly be using BePaid.

A week later I got my first real advert from Hertz followed by 2 more from internet-phone companies. They were all interesting to watch and lasted between 2 and 4 minutes. I had a look at the websites for these companies and that was that.

However, when I looked at my account it showed I had $94 in my account. Surely a mistake? I checked with my referals and they had all had similar experiences and all earnt over $60.

So here's my dilemma - this company looks good, pays great and I'm more than happy to use them and get paid. BUT I haven't seen a cheque yet, and I can't work out how they can afford to pay so much. Will Hertz really pay me $30 to see an advert? That seems a little high.

Until I get a cheque in my hand, this company gets 4 stars. I'll update this review if I get any more info.

UPDATE - 1st August 2000

I emailed BePaid to check my total was correct but didn't get a response. However, I checked my account today and my total earnings had changed from $94 to 94 cents. I guess someone forgot to divide by 100.

I've downgraded my rating to 2 stars, because although the ads themselves are impressive and you
can choose when to see them, the rewards are not great. I'd prefer to know I'm earning 30p an hour with AllAdvantage instead of maybe a couple of dollars a month if I'm lucky.

Anyway, I'll keep using it until it either annoys me or clearly doesn't pay, and update this review with any extra info as and when.
