Advantages: Webchat, no need to install anything. Easy accesible through the browser. Nostalgic

Disadvantages: Webchat, they tend to pretty slow, so it takes a while before you see the new posts

With Instant Messaging programs and IRC covering the majority of the chats that take place on the web, its a good idea to discuss whether or not it is really necessary to still have html (or web-based) chatrooms available.

BeSeen obviously shut its doors cause of the high maintenance cost, due to some errors in their software they couldn't handle. People, including myself, used to spend a lot of time over at the BeSeen chats.

So, now BeSeen is back, at least the chat part of it. Including the creation of your own rooms. People from back in the day seem to slowly find their way back to their former home and this is great for them. However, for new users this can be pretty though to get accepted.

The good thing is that within minutes you will have your own customizable chat room available, for free. You can make it a public room, that every user from the BeSeen universe can get into. You can also make it a private room to which users can request access, and you can either approve or reject them. Not a whole lot of different options but features are still being added there, we will see where it goes.

Customization is still limited to the odd image and the text colors. The different available features are managed by the website owners, but might be opened up for customization in a later stage.

The webchat idea is cool, since you can access it from any browser, wherever you are and you dont need to install any extra software. The downside is that its kindda slow, and people nowadays are used to Instant Messaging and get annoyed or bored with Webchats easily. Its a good alternative if nothing else is available.

Give it a try, you might enjoy it, you might not. Either way its a free service that seems to be supported by the occasional Paypal donation, and the Google ads.
