I've been with BE for some years now and they have been pretty good all that time. The forum is particularly helpful, with active comments from BE staff and others. I've had one or two minor issues which have been quickly resolved either by BE service or on the forum.
The service calls are free and they usually answer after a few seconds or a minute. Most of the service people actually know what they are talking about. All in all, not like some service organizations I could mention.
I'm getting 20Mbits/sec on an 'up to' 24 Mbits/sec; many people wont be so lucky. That depends on the line distance to the exchange and line quality, both outside BE's control. Whatever, they will help ensure that you get the best possible out of what is available.
You need to be a little careful with the provided router (Thompson), and the BE DNS service has been a bit erratic sometimes. Ask on the forum and you will get help with both. Put the router on its side, and use BE DNS with another as 'backup' which is fairly easy to set up if you are at all technical.
BeThere.co.uk is a Broadband supplier. They are part of o2 but work independently I believe. They offer services up to 24mb with around 1.3mb upload and very cost effective prices. They use ADSL2+ technology which is pretty much the best you can get in the UK without using Virgin Media cable.
Now they are unlimited, they do not throttle whatsoever. They have no hidden rules of regulations like some of providers, nor do they plan to realise any in the near future.
I have been with them now for over a year and their service has been fantastic. Of course we have had a few problems here and there, but most providers are not helpful in troubling times, whereas BeThere's support is pretty good considering it is not based in the UK.
They have an amazing forum with so much information that you could get lost and not be found in a week. It includes things like; Tips on increasing your broadband speed, what settings to use, what routers are good and which are not so good. The wealth of information there is something what must be seen to be believed.
They also have a very strong forum user-group. Many members are extremely helpful and supportive. So if you have an issue that may or may not be related to BeThere's broadband service, you will often get a constructive reply. You can even ask for support relating to things such as a noisy fan in your PC and so on.
There are always problems as I mentioned earlier about Broadband suppliers. Many of these problems are due to running on very old systems that BT implemented many moons ago. BeThere did seem to struggle for a long time with DNS issues, where websites didn't load quickly or at all. Fortunately it does now appear they have managed to fix these issues which shows that they do listen to their members and work with us and not against us.
Another slight niggle I have with BeThere is the modem they issue their members with. It is a Speedtouch Modem Router and it isn't very good. During hot weather or if it is left in a warm room, the router can over-heat and cause problems with your broadband stability. Luckily the information on the forums saved me a lot of hassle, they recommended other Router/Modems that are known to work with BeThere and some of them can be bought second-hand for less than ten pounds. You can also overcome the Speedtouch's overheating issue by turning upside down.
They seem to work pretty hard at BeThere on many things. They have competitions, they have partnerships with Gaming related websites/companies, they have open days where managers and technical staff speak openly and frankly with the customers on the forum. They truly do seem pretty open and honest about things, and if anything happens they always keep their members updated every step of the way.
A lot of companies could learn a lot from BeThere, and BeThere could be a truly amazing ISP but they seem to be let down by other companies. Such as BT and Speedtouch, they both clearly play a huge role in making a dent in BeThere's reputation. I guess it isn't easy to for BeThere to dump either of them, otherwise I am sure they would have already.
So all I can say is well done BeThere, keep up the good work. Don't let those other ISP's and companies bring you down!
