I like BLOGGING, yes I like to BLOG?

(Replace BLOG with TRUCK, and you can find the original as a joke song from Not the Nine O?Clock News, trivia fans?)

When writing about BLOGGER, it?s inevitable that you will kick off the review with a pathetic pun, because it?s just TOO tempting to weigh in with the standard one liner, so please excuse me for my own little lapse in taste as a starter for 10?

BLOG ? type in define:blog in the Google search engine (there?s a little hint for you if you want the meaning of a word) and you get the response: ?A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is "blogging" and someone who keeps a blog is a "blogger." Blogs are typically updated daily using software that allows people with little or no technical background to update and maintain the blog. Postings on a blog are almost always arranged in cronological order with the most recent additions featured most prominently.?

The term is actually a slang name for a Weblog, or a journal maintained on the Internet, and believe me it can be intense fun maintaining a BLOG, although I wouldn?t bank on getting a load of hits to your daily diary because there?s undoubtedly a whole host of rubbish out there and 99.99999% of it is absolute junk.

However, if you?re of a mind to share all your most valuable thoughts and personal insights with the entire world wide community who browse across cyberspace then blogging might be for you.

If you are among such people, then BLOGGER is definitely for you. You can find this site at www.blogger.com (where else) and it?s very easy to join up for this site, which is now part of
the Google empire. You can even download a Google toolbar which includes a button allowing you to blog with a simple click of the button.

Anyway, what BLOGGER do is provide very quick and easy facilities for even the biggest Internet dummy for whom all this is so much difficult geekery to maintain their own website simply and easily. True enough, there are only some standard designs available via the site, but you can always modify it yourself if you understand how to write HTML code, but even the standard stuff is okay if you just want to get your thoughts collected for posterity.

Another minor gripe is that BLOGGER doesn?t allow you to upload photos or graphics, although again a little neat HTML will allow you to link to graphics which you load elsewhere. Here?s a clue ? the following code gives you a very nice link to a lovely pic of an old time footie baller
as long as the nice chap who runs the Jimmy Speirs website maintains it (Cheers Andrew). baller <img alt="Bradford City footballer Mark Mellors" src=" http://www.jimmy-speirs.co.uk/Mellors_2.JPG" align="left" />

Once you?ve joined up, the BLOGGER site gives you many hints and tips and links to all sorts of weird existing sites, and gives you the facility to set up your house style and template and it?s extremely easy to load up perfectly adequate website stuff. The site even gives you control over archiving and provides the ability to link elsewhere and access the archive, all at the click of a button ? brilliant. (If you?re a frequent BLOGGER they?ll also give you access to Google?s brilliant new Gmail service, but that?s for another day).

There?s a happy little community building up nicely at BLOGG&#
69;R and that?s one of the attractions for joining up.

You can set up any number of different BLOGs with BLOGGER and they will come up with this sort of address http://zinc_craps.blogspot.com/ where the zinc_craps is the name of your individual site.

Another great feature is the facility to make your BLOG site into a community of its own by giving the facility for other members to upload stuff, which is pretty wonderful.

AND VERY BEST OF ALL, IT?S ALL COMPLETELY FREE, which is really wonderful.

Remember then, that if you really want to annoy the entire Internet community, then it can all just be a click away?

PS Please remember that having a website does not automatically mean that your content is either interesting or even tolerable, please use BLOGGER judiciously?

I have to say that the guys at BLOGGER are among my favourites on the entire World Wide thingy and to altruistically go where no man has gone before is very brave ? still I guess that one day they will make a big pile ? still, who cares as long as I can continue to BLOG?.

My first thought with blogs is "Why?" but I must admit there are two I enjoy reading fairly regularly - they are famous at all, it's just cool/weird to see into someone else's life. All of a sudden soaps make more sense... ! ;)
