Rented a car several times through cardelmar.co.uk as i found the car hire options and the insurance coverage incredibly good . There are differences between the us siteThe customer service opening hours can be a pain as my hire was in mexico and their opening hours are on european times , however apart from that incredibly friendly and amzing service, and the prices i found with cardelmar were significantly lower, but the customer service and overall help provided after the rental to make changes etc was incredible. The hire went through europcar which handled everything after the booking was paid for.I have tried various companies whose quotes for car hire were significantly higher and offered fewer insurance options.
Having rented cars in Spain for the last 20 years I am delighted to have found Car Del Mar. The process was not only painless but extrememly good for value for money. The main advantages for me were no one way drop off fees and being able to return the car full of fuel instead of paying for a full tank and only using a fraction of it. I have already added them to my favorites.
Every time I travel abroad I find it difficult to find the right car hire company to rent a car, I used to spend a lot of time on internet searching for better prices with better cover and all of them hide extra costs and try to mislead you just to ripp you off, but since I have used CarDelmar when I have travelled to porto I couldn't find better elswere, the service is great, the terms and conditions are very clear and plain with no hidden costs also the excess cover is really genuine which give you a peace of mind. Despite their prices are inclusive and reasonable they offered me in my last trip in May 2011 a 10% discount which was also an extra bonnus. when I arrived to the airport I found Europcar also helpful and in one occasion I requested a different car and they were happy to exchange it for me without any hassle. so far I have used carDelmar several times and never had any problem which has concerned me in previous experiences mainly when it comes to inssurance cover. I can say try it with confidence and you will experience exactly what I'm writting...it is trully 5 stars service with a little price. I'm travelling soon to porto and without a single doubt I will use carDelmar again and I'm not going to waste my time searching for other car rental company......... Tomorrow 16/06/11 I'm celebrating my 46 birthday and I will shout and say Well done CarDelmar for the best code of practice and for the genuine 5 star service with competitive all inclusive prices............ My booking was made by phone and the Customer Service guy was excellent.Nothing was too much trouble ! Car was rented at Pisa airport where Europcar were the provider. The Car Hire area at Pisa airport is about a 400 meter walk from the arrivals hall but is clearly marked (obviously this is not down to Car Del Mar). We arrived quite late at night and the desk was well manned and there was no delay in dealing with the paperwork and providing the vehicle. All very simple and easy to understand. Excellent quality vehicle. Thev collision damage waiver system used by Car Del Mar is by far the simplest I have encountered and also considerably cheaper than I have experienced before. I have used many diferent Car Hire Companies around the world and this was without doubt the most straightforward transaction I have had. Outstanding all round. Highly recommend. I will definitely look for Car Del Mar 1st for all future bookings.
We've used CarDelMar several times now, the reason being because it's so simple, straight forward and particularly the big saving on Insuring the excess thro CarDelMar rather than paying at the car rental desk where you're suddenly asked to stump up a big fee or risk a £500 or more damage excess. Great service. All the rental firms covered by CarDelMar have been exemplary - the cars have been ready waiting for us all set to go. Returning the car on the last trip to Hertz was a dream. Hertz were waiting for us in the car park, checked the car over whilst I unloaded the cases, signed us off as all present and correct and handed us a final receipt by the time I was ready to go into the airport. Signing up to receive the CarDelMar newsletter has given us added benefits in the shape of extra discounts on top of the already low rates - love this way of hiring a car.
We used Car Del Mar for a weeks holiday near Milan and picked up our car from Milan Malpensa airport. The price we were quoted was by far the cheapest and I really liked the website and how easy it was to book. What surprised me the most was how big the difference was in price compared to going dirrectly to the car hire company - there is a lot of money to save! When we arrived in the airport the local agent (europcar) had the car ready and we had no problems on site. We have previously booked through Car del Mar for a holiday where ended up having to cancel the reservation - this was really easy and our money was refunded within a week. The only challenge with booking through a service like this is that you do not know who the local agent is befor eyou have completed your booking and whether their offices are in the airport or whether you need to use a shuttle service between the airport and their offices. This could add hazle and time to your travel time.
I rented a car in San Francisco, and it cost me half the price then renting at the counter. Furthermore, I was not responsible for any excess.
Easy to book online with no glitches,quick confirmation and response to query.No queuing at desk.Pricing excellent and car quality much better than similar competitors.Fewer extra costs than usual with renters and all clearly explained.No need to "bring back empty" which seems the usual scam in Portugal.A very pleasant experience with the added benefit of Quidco!
I have used cardelmar some 5 times now visiting Portugal. On each occasion I have been well looked after by the agent, all paper work has been in order, on a couple of occasions I have been upgraded without request. Booking on the internet is very easy and transparent, I have had no difficulty booking and the confirmation is very fast. Location of the agents was clearly shown making it easy to check in within minutes of arrival. The booking details are easy to understand and all questions or queries have been answered very swiftly. The biggest benefit I have found though is being able to take out fully comprehensive insurance through Caldelmar at a fraction of the cost of using seperate insurers or buying from the agents, it gives real peace of mind to know you are covered. Would highly reccomend and have done so already to my friends and work mates.
Rental in the US from Alamo. Good price on rental. Only issue was that on reservation confirmation form, the car rental company reservation code was not provided. This caused some delays at the time of rental, but the manager must have contacted Car Del Mar because the issue was resolved by the time we returned the car.
Whilst the price comparison side of things brought a very cheap price, I will never pay such a low price again. Picking up our car was a disaster, with terrible customer service, a car seat in the wrong car, a car that could not be found, and the need to leave a signed, authorised payment for £1000 on a credit card slip just in case we have an accident or any damage, despite having paid up front for all excess payments to be included in our insurance. One out of two of our cars was damaged but not marked on the sheet, and the other had faulty air conditioning despite paying specicifcally for air conditioning. The whole process at Portugal airport took us 2 hours, from arriving at the collection desk to driving off - the worst part of our holiday. Stick with the well known companies! Never again will we go cheap!
I have booked a car with CDM for several times, my focus was on US-based reservations. CDM does not have the best rates, sometimes the charge you 30% and more than their competitor with the same service options (Without any special discount codes) but why bother about that: CDM offers a best price guarantee. Several reservations have been adopted after having sent a short mail with a screenshot of the competitor's website and my rate got adopted within 24hrs. That's the way it should be. Since a few weeks, CDM has adopted it's T&Cs concerning the best price guarante, now it says "The Best Price Guarantee is not valid for [...] individual cases, when a price match is not available due to the guidelines of the respective hire car provide" Upon my next request I was told that ALAMO USA is not allowing any more "best price guarantee"-corrections. So, basically the whole USA is excluded from this Best Price Guarantee. I do not believe in that as other companies still offer this feature. Furthermore an ALAMO representative told me that this was nothing known to him. The fact that CDM seems to use minor transparent T&Cs, the often non-competitive rates combined with the way they dealt with my following request to recheck this issue made me leave Cardelmar. Furthermore I cannot (and have not since) recommend this company to other people looking for cheap car hire.
