Advantages: Fast service, free postage of your jewellery, good prices offered, straightforward process
Disadvantages: None that I found
There seems to have been a recent surge of advertising for websites that take your old scraps of jewellery and give you money for it, including cashmygold.co.uk. There were a few bits and pieces lying in a box upstairs so I decided to send them off to get a few pennies, rather than leave them to gather dust. It was difficult deciding which site to use as there are quite a few now, all with similar claims, but I had read a few positives reviews regarding this one so decided to give it a go.
Cashmygold.co.uk has been on television advertising, which I think is where I first saw it on ITV. This doesn't necessarily make it the safest or highest paying site, but it does add a bit of credibility to it.
The website is clearly laid out and states the facts plainly and simply. The front page shows a 100% guarantee section, highlighting that if you're not satisfied they will return your possessions. I sent ours off knowing that I would accept whatever pennies they suggested it was worth, thinking it would only be a couple of quid at most. It also felt safer only sending small items, just to give it a test run to make sure it was kosher.
... How Does It Work? ...
On the website is a simple form you fill out with your general contact details, including your address, so they can send you an envelope in which to place to jewellery. Once I filled this in, I received a confirmation email and was told my gold bag would be in the post ASAP; and a day later it came through the letter box!
There is no cost to you; the bags are pre-paid so you just need to pop your jewellery inside and put it in the post. On the front are your details, so they know whose jewellery they're analysing. I took mine into the post office to get a proof of purchase, and there are details on their website of how to track your package if you wish to do this. These bags are insured upto a value of £2,500, which boosted the confidence I had in cashmygold.
The site claims a quick evaluation of your jewellery and payment afterwards, though I wasn't expecting it to be quite so speedy! It was probably the day they received my gold bag back that I had an email from them stating what it was worth. I was quite surprised, and accepted the offer. If you choose to decline, they will make arrangements to get it sent back to you.
If you accept, you can then choose how you wish to be paid. I chose cheque, and the date on the cheque was the same day (though I didn't receive it until 3-4 days later but I think this was a delay in the postal service, not the site). All in all, a very quick turn-around from requesting your gold bag and receiving the money for your items.
As long as your jewellery is gold, it doesn't matter if it's broken or if an earring is missing a butterfly, they'll take it. Their evaluation isn't based upon weight alone either, which some sites seem to be. Cashmygold uses your jewellery to melt down & refine, and they calculate your pay depending upon how much pure gold is containing in your jewellery upon analysis.
To give you a rough idea of what to expect, I sent in the following:
3 pairs of studs, 2 pairs of drop earrings, one single stud and 2 small hoop hoop earrings.
Considering I only sent in earrings, one or two of which were missing butterflies, I didn't expect much back. I was very pleased when the email read they were offering just under £20.
I would definitely recommend cashmygold.co.uk if you have some unwanted jewellery lying around. From my experience, the company is trustworthy and reliable, and the customer service and contact provided from them is quick and efficient. It's simple to do, there's no charge incurred, and I had no problems.
Plus, with the higher rates of gold at the moment, you may be lucky if you're able to find some unwanted bits and pieces and find you have a little fortune hiding away.
Summary: A fast & simple way to cash in any unwanted gold jewellery, definitely recommended :o)
