Advantages: Well run/reliable, Stable bar

Disadvantages: Low pay rate, Only works if you get referals (and lots!)

This is a 'get paid to surf' program. For those who are not familiar with these things, they involve having a bar on your desktop that displays banner ads while you are online. You then get paid based on the amount of time you spend using the bar.

Cashsurfers was one of the first of these programs created. When they started, advertising revenues were high, as many companies saw Internet advertising as a new way to get new customers. Now, however, the hype is over, and everyone has realised the truth: banners don't work. Let's face it, who among us has ever clicked a banner? As a result, advertisers are paying less and less, until we get to our current state, where pay rates are as low as 2 cents per hour of surfing.

Cashsurfers have not escaped this trend either. Making money just by using the bar is a futile exercise. No, the real way you earn money with these things is by getting referrals. Each person you refer earns you money. If you're a webmaster, you can conceivably get 1000s of referrals. But unless it is popular site with large visitor counts, don't expect this to happen.

So far, everything I have thus mentioned has been about PTS programs in general. But how does Cashsurfers compare? Well, as I have already mentioned, the pay rate is very low. However, the bar itself is one of the better ones I have used. Most are very unstable, but this hardly ever crashes. The website is very professional, and in general the system is well run, with payments being sent out regularly, so you can be sure that if you ever do earn enough, you will be paid. There are other ways of making money too, such as the special deals, which pay you to sign up to third party services. They have promised paid e-mail and paid games for a long time, but I suspect this will never happen.

In the end, you can only make money by getting referrals. If you don’t think you would be able to do this, you would be better off using doo
yoo, which relies more on the quality of your writing. PTS may have worked when advertisers were excited and paying lots, but not any more.

You're right, "paid to surf" is pretty much dead now. Glad to hear they do pay up though, most sites have bad reports on this front.

I've never used a 'pay-to-surf' prog and I'm glad I haven't - they all seem to be going bust at the moment. Maybe when advertising goes back up they'll do better but I wouldn't bet on it! Thanks! Anna
