Advantages: fun, free
Disadvantages: I haven't won yet
I watch some strange game shows and when I first started getting into Channel 4's 'Show Me the Money' I thought I may have gone slightly mad. As someone with previously no interest or knowledge of shares or trading I quickly became addicted and started using terms like 'tech shares' and 'market spread' in the pub. So it wasn't long before I fancied trying out my new obsession on the Internet but having little or no money to play with how was I to do it? Easy you register with the website and they give you £100,000 (woohooo, but not real unfortunatly) to invest in shares you choose - 5 sets of £20,000 investments. Once a week you can sell one of your companies (if you want to) and use the money from the sale to purchase another portion of shares. Couldn't be easier! And what do i get out of this you may ask. Well each week the person who has made the largest percentage gain over the week wins £1,000 and the overall winner whose portfolio has the greatest value wins £10,000 at the end of the competition. The competition runs for 10 weeks and you can join in at any time during the 10 week run. This is the third competition I've been involved in and you do actually improve. Today I'm number 19 on the leader board out of 10104 players - and I know NOTHING about share trading, so it goes to show everyone can have a go. You can access current share news onsite and check out the celebrity leader board (B list celebs), where they always do really badly! So go and have a go and pretend your getting rich or maybe you'll win and then you really will be!
