Chatrooms have up's and downs good things and bad things.
It is possible to make genuine friends in chatrooms to seek advice or its an ego boost to loneley people without many friends. Its also a chance to find love.
But the bad points out number the good. You never know who you are chatting to. And soem of these people can track down ur adress just by talking to you. But for adults its bot so bad they arn't so vunrable and impressionable as children and teenagers. Many young girls have been pursuaded to meet people off the interent. These people are claiming to be young boys and sending faulse pictures. The girls feel special and loved and so fall for the trick. They end up meeting men usually old men who want to take advantage of the young girls and there is nothing they can do to defend themselves.
So what can be done to stop this? Unfortunatly not much. Only the girls and sometimes boys can stop this happening. If they do want to meet someone they must make sure that an adult knows excactly where they are going. They must also have the metting in a busy place and take someone with them just in case.
But the best way to combat thsi is by making sure your children have a messanger service such as msn or yahoo messanger. That way they only chat to friends whom they hjave on there contact list and they can then be introduced to friends friends so you know who they all are and its perfectly safe.
But pedofiles on the net, beware we are onto you!!!
