I was mightily impressed by checkmyfile. I needed to check my credit rating and had dealt with the three big companies before. However this time I used checkmyfile and they gave information from each of the three big companies, in a very clear summary. The report was excellent and also gave the ratings that the lenders get to see versus other people. Highly recommended! I will be using them again. Thank you.
After dealing with the two major credit agencies, I was delighted to discover checkmyfile. Not only do you receive great customer service, the financial information is both clear and thorough - and I successfully applied for a credit card I thought was out of my league thanks to the recommendation given me. Also, cancelling your subscription is absolutely hassle-free and can be done online. There''s a gaping chasm between this small company and the giant corporations. For one, the information is more detailed and easier to digest; and secondly, you''re treated with a courtesy that''s alien to the big two agencies.
In short, what you receive from this company beats the others hands down for both quality and value for money.
I used the service this month to help me assess and better understand the entries on my credit file. I found the secure messages a very nice additional free service. Staff answered all of my queries very promptly and provided very helpful guidance. I thoroughly recommend this service.
the site is fantastic, user-friendly interface, very good layout. the summary on the main page is superb. you can see your experian, equifax and callcredit records in one place. a well thought through site. well done folks! registering process and cancellation is very simple, no need to phone another human being. highly recommended, no hesitation. very competitive subscription fees.
I came across the Checkmyfile website by chance and thought I would give it a go as it is offering a free trial at the moment. It was by far the easiest credit report site I have ever used. Everything on the site is easy to understand and self explanatory. The added bonus was it also tells you what other credit reference agencies have on file about you. I had a couple of questions about items on my report which were answered within a few hours via a direct email by a member of staff. I cannot find any fault whatsoever with this site and cannot praise it highly enough. If you are thinking of checking your credit report then this is the site to head for.
Really great free service and excellent customer service. Start to finish registration took 5 mins to complete. I really can't praise enough of best customer service and speed of credit report generated. I strongly recommend to use at-least free 30 days service for your peace of mind.
When I was very young and a bit stupid I racked up a significant amount of debt. I lived with seven rich girls in University and when they went shopping with mummy and daddy's money I didn't have the back bone to say hey I can't afford it today I'll stay home so instead I went out with my credit cards. Needless to say I got into a right bother and had no chance of paying them off so I buried my head in the sand and ran away (please don't copy me).
Anyway it is not 8 years later and for the past two years I have been trying to sort my debts out and in turn improve my credit core with the hope of eventually getting a mortgage in probably another 8 years+. I tries Experian to see how bad things where t cost my £15 and didn't really give me much info and I knew there were things missing so really it was useless.
About a year ago I found checkmyfile.com which combines the information from all the different credit scoring agencies to give you a comprehensive look at your record. It show you you're score for each agency as well as what score employers and landlords see (which thank goodness is a lot higher than your normal score for most people).
Check my file costs £7.99 a month and they update your report on a monthly basis so you can keep seeing the improvements you are making, which really helps to keep you motivated. For example my score was 192 (cringe) when I started and in the first 6 months of working on it I got it up to 496 which although still bad is much better. What I tend to do is cancel the DD if I know I am not going to clear anything for a few months to save me paying to see very little movement and then pay again when I think I have made a difference for example cleared a debt so I can see how I am going.
Now the main reason I found checkyfile.com so usefull in helping me improve my credit score is that I didn't really know who I owed money to anymore, all my defaulted accounts had be passed from debt collector to debt collector for years. Check my file not only tells you who you owe money to and how much but gives you contact details in the form of an email address, postal address and phone number . I have managed to set up payment plans with two of the companies without speaking to anyone on the phone which is nice and one of them I didn't even give them my new address.
If you up payment plans the accounts will still show as in default but you can see your debt slowly reducing which is nice.
Overall I would recommend checkmyfile as a really useful tool for anyone trying to improve their credit score or get a grip of their finances as well as for people who are worried about identity theft as youc an report any accounts that you are unfamiliar with.
5* from me :)
This review is also on my ciao account under shellyjaneo
First time I have ever used a company such as this and I found the whole experience superb. The website is very straightforward and intuitive ( even to a techno phobe like me !) and the information is clear, concise and well illustrated. On the occasion that I had to speak directly with someone they were efficient, helpful and provided comfort around my concern.I would happily recommend Check My File to anyone looking to do their homework on this area of their lives.
I have used other credit check companies in past but I am most impressed with checkMyFile.com as :1 ) It show all reports and ratings held with Experian , Equifax and CallCredit ( all in one place save £££ )2 ) Best price compare to all other agencies .3 ) Clear charts which show your lending in past 6 years, user can filter according to lender, perfect4 ) Shows all searches which has been made again your file and categorize them and give useful information to get in touch with company who made the search.5 ) Credit score is explained in very good manner, I love graphs and picture they have used to explainLast but not least, I would definitely use it and recommend to family and friends.
Hi Checkmyfile,Thank you for the excellent service, have been very happy with your service in the last 6-12 months. Have been using CreditExpert, Equifax and Checkmyfile for the last months as I was applying for a loan. You are definitely miles ahead in customer service compared to CreditExpert and Equifax. All my questions were answered very promptly and to the point.Very impressed with the simplicity and usability of the site!Cheers!Tharun
This is a really fantastic service, and although I am cancelling my subscription now (a free 30-day trial, which was incredibly easy to use, and also convenient to cancel when I wanted to) I intend to use it again in the future, and I will certainly recommend it to others. Far more transparent and useful than competitors, very reasonably priced, and great to have all three credit reports in one place). Great customer service, very impressed.
I'm so impressed with the excellent service that checkmyfile.com provided, at a much better value price than others in a similar business.
I was initially a little wary of signing up for a free 30 day trial for a credit report, as I thought it would be difficult to cancel if it wasn't what I was hoping for. I needn't have worried though as it was simple and clearly set out as to how you could cancel, and it was instant too, and you don't have to talk to anyone, it's all done online and literally takes less than a minute.
I did actually sign up for a paid subscription, as I was so impresssed with every aspect of the service and I wanted to monitor my credit score going upwards as my financial situation improves due to positive circumstances in my life right now. My credit score via checkmyfile.com went up by about 30 points over a couple of months and it gives you such a boost to see, in front of you on the screen, proof that things are heading in the right direction money-wise.
The checkmyfile.com website is really well laid out, easy to navigate, intuitive, and has a friendly feel. It has a wonderful splash of colour which seems to guide your eyes to different sections of each page, so that you can easily and effectively absorb the information. It's business-like and professional, but not at all scary or threatening like some other money orientated websites. You're treated like a person, not a number and it just feels "right".
It was interesting to discover that the credit score that employers and landlords see is much higher than your regular score. I wondered at the time why I'd easily passed the search the estate agents carried out, but now I know!
I've never actually wrote a review for a financial website before, but I was so impressed with checkmyfile.com that I wanted to tell others how awesome they are.
If you're reading this and are considering signing-up for the free trial, stop thinking and start doing; you won't regret it. I didn't! Thanks for reading.
This company makes it very easy to see your credit score and reports across multiple providers (Equifax, Experian, Callcredit) and have a multitude of ways of helping you resolve any issues (including secure messages, free phone numbers and mobile friendly numbers to call)Most providers offer a subscription service, I had been with Credit Expert (Experian) for some time but they had missed information that checkmyfile had from other providers so it makes sense to subscribe with a provider that gives you access to multiple credit reference companies.
~~ Checkmyfile.com ~~
During my job I have occasion where I have to give advice about identity fraud and protecting yourself. Apart from advising people not to give their personal and bank details out at the door; and not to use the links in emails asking you to update your account, I also send them to a very useful website called www.checkmyfile.com.
As I recommend the site so often I thought it was about time that I checked it out properly and passed on the details of my findings.
Checkmyfile tailor their reports to meet your needs, if you can't find all the answers on line, they offer you a person at the end of the phone line to answer your questions. The phone number is placed strategically on various pages throughout the site.
They can offer you a public credit report, as seen by many companies, in the country you are living in (UK, USA or Australia). Here in the UK it is based on info from Experian data, or you have the option of a full private credit report in the detail that is available to lenders (this is based on Equifax data and gives accounts but not lenders names). Finally there is the option of an extremely full and private credit report which goes into greater depth on your credit history and provides lenders details (Callcredit). The site is designed to help you choose the right report to help your situation. I will try to explain as I continue to describe the web site.
~~ Home Page ~~
As you enter the site you are greeted with a fresh looking home page in light blue and white, with orange headers that lead to links. You can explore the site without having to register, which to me is a good thing and cuts down on all that junk mail you can get.
The first thing that catches my eye is how easy it appears to the eye and it looks easy to navigate with all the tabs and links to choose from, these all come under the bold heading which actually sums up the site 'Take Control of your Personal information'. One thing I did like about this home page was that right under the heading they offered you a contact phone number which I believe is a great idea as there are still people that prefer to speak to a person rather than deal with a computer.
Dotted around a cartoon picture of a family and their dog taking a walk (to represent you and your family) are various links each taking you to a section that will help and advise you. Some of the links will take you straight to where you can purchase a credit report, if you know that's what you want, I personally would advise that you look at the site further and let it tell you more and explain what is available and how it helps you before making a decision.
On the bottom of the screen in small print, is a line of information links like Copyright, Terms & conditions etc. Your location links are on the bottom as well, they cover three countries at this time which are UK, Australia and USA.
~~ Check Your Credit Report. ~~
This is a good place to start whether you are just interested in your credit rating or maybe you have just been declined credit. What ever your reason for looking on this site, you will find loads of useful information, some of which you may already know and some which will open your eyes.
On this page they supply you with a list of the most popular questions asked, by clicking on the question it will advise you on which package would suit your needs the best, for example you may only need a single agency report, or a triple agency report will you give you all the information you need to help you obtain the answer to your question. The answer appears on the right hand side of the page; even when you get the answer if you still don't understand it you can click on another link which tells you more.
~~ Free Credit Score. ~~
You don't even have to register with the site for this short questionnaire which will give you a general idea on what your credit score will be. Lenders don't usually read all of your credit report, they are mainly interested in what your credit score is, as this gives them a general idea of the risk you are.
The good thing about this check is that it is totally anonymous so no search footprint will appear on any of your credit reports. The scoring runs between 0 -1000 with the average being around 750. It is worth checking this as you will be surprised what can affect your scoring, like your postcode and your age.
The questions have a drop down menu, with options for you to click on, once you have answered all the questions just click 'calculate score' and your score is there on the screen within seconds (depending on the speed of your computer or modem). I decided to try this out with fictitious data for the purpose of learning more and passing this info onto you.
It gave a credit score of 771 and then it converted this to 3 stars out of 5, giving me an explanation in writing as well as saying that a 3 star credit rating is bang on what most people in the UK have - which apparently makes me a major target for most credit companies and could lead me to receiving more junk mail. It also offers a link which will show me how to improve this credit rating.
Once you have your credit rating it goes on to explain what it means, so that you have a better understanding. It also goes on to show you how your credit score compares to other UK residents, for example the score of 771 is better than 54% of UK residents, it is worth doing this check and reading about it as well.
I am still in this section and after reading all about this credit score and everything that it entails I now get the chance to read all about how this score can be improved, including links which can be taken if you decide to investigate that option, for example there is a link for 'switching bank'.
Phew! Just coming up for air, as there are more and more pages of information to digest in this FREE credit report. These include positive influences on your score and the negative ones, there is a little section where you can check how life changing issues can affect your score, like moving house, retirement etc; for example if my children leave home my score would increase, but should I retire then my credit score would go down.
~~ Find a Lender ~~
This section gives you a list of the top credit cards available, giving you the opportunity to compare what rates etc are on offer.
Transfer rates - i.e. 0%, 2.9% etc
Transfer expiry - i.e. 15mths etc, or 1st Feb 2009 etc
Transfer fees - i.e. 2.9%, 3% etc
Intro Rate - i.e. 0%, n/a etc
Intro expiry - i.e. 3mths or a date
Typical APR - i.e. 12.9% etc
Once you have chosen the best deal for you there is a link key 'Apply Now' which will take you to the application forms.
~~ Debt Advice Centre ~~
This is a world full of temptation and easy to get credit, which has bought the amount of people struggling at different levels to an astronomical rate (if you listen to the news). If you want any kind of advice on managing your finances, or bringing them to a manageable level, then this is the section for you. It is split up into four sections depending on the degree of debt you're in, these are the following:-
Short term problems ~~
Causes: maybe you are in between jobs, off work sick, or maybe just a short-term cash flow problem has arisen.
Relying a little too much on your credit cards
Have you taken another card out to help you get by?
Are you relying on your overdraft?
Maybe you are just concerned about if you can meet all your commitments.
Debt indigestion ~~
Causes: too much going out, leaving you not enough to live comfortably on.
You are just about making ends meet.
You have to borrow from 'Peter' to pay 'Paul'
You are constantly changing your credit cards to get a lower interest rate.
You bury your head in the sand and try not to think about the bills.
You can only manage the minimum payments each month.
You are wishing for extra money to help you get by.
Going Backwards ~~
Causes: you have more going out than you have coming in and your overall dept is growing.
You get turned down for further credit.
You have consolidated your debts (maybe more than once)
You are afraid to look at your monthly statements
You are becoming anxious and don't know where to turn.
You are loosing sleep and may even smoke or drink more than normal.
Out of Control ~~
Ok, this bit feels really, very scary and the first thing I would say is try and stay calm and look at the options available to you. It is not the end of the world, it only feels that way.
If any of the categories listed relate to you in anyway then please hit the button marked Remedy and read some of the very useful advice on the solutions to help you get back on top again, and more importantly back in control.
The other useful thing about all the advice they give, is that they put links to other services on the internet for example, eBay, and consumer credit counselling services to name but two.
Just remember what ever your circumstances are, if you face up to them, then you will find the light at the end of the tunnel.
~~ Check your Postcode ~~
You will be amazed what information is stored under your postcode, obtained from various sources including Government statistics, geodemographic databases, census data and surveys (yes just like the ones you fill in online).
When you put in your postcode you can find out the average credit rating for the area, house prices, weather, maps, satellite images, education and much more.
The postcode check is free and there is no limit to the amount of searches you make; no-one will know that you have done a search, so you could find some useful information if you are thinking of moving to a new postcode, especially if it is going to affect your credit rating.
Like most sections on this site it gets broken down into categories again like:-
It is in the feedback section where you can become a registered user of the site, you need to be registered to leave feedback on your postcode area; so when people look at the site they can read your views on your street, all the good and bad points that you list (a great idea for some streets I could think of, maybe anti-social behaviour problems etc).
They collate the majority of the info provided from Cameo and Censation (you can click on the links to learn more about these companies).
~~ Identity Theft Risk Assessment ~~
This, like the credit report earlier is a FREE check, which is very useful as it is a growing problem with travel and the internet becoming more and more popular. This is also one of the main reasons why I advise people to come to this site.
There is a small questionnaire to fill in online some of the questions you will need to click on a box and on others there is a drop down menu which gives you a multiple choice for you to click on. Once you have answered all the questions you simply click on the orange buttons saying 'calculate risk' and the result is there almost immediately.
The Risk Assessment Results ~~
You risk score, like your credit score is calculated between 0 and 1000; 1000 being the highest risk. It is also broken down into areas and graphs showing you where your score is on the grand scale and how items are at risk and what you can do to reduce the risk.
For example your wallet/purse can be a goldmine in the wrong hands, if you own a few credit cards, try and limit how many you actually carry on you at one time and don't leave them lying around. Don't leave your pin number in your wallet/purse along side your card.
Unused credit cards are a great target for identity theft, the reason being it would take you longer to realise that it had been used. Also don't ever leave a credit card anywhere unsigned. There is a lot more useful information for your perusal, hitting areas like your lifestyle, internet usage, tips for protecting your identity, credit card skimming, holidays and passport security.
They even offer a book for sale at £9.99 (free p&p) which goes into the whole subject a lot deeper, this is called 'Identity Theft Prevention and Victim Assistance' and can be purchased by sending them a cheque/postal order to the address:
Credit Reporting Agency Ltd
13 High Cross
~~ Some More Facts ~~
They were the first company to supply customers with online access to credit reports back in the year 2000.
They are the leading supplier of personal credit reports to members of the public.
They also claim to be the first company in the world, which provided access to both credit ratings and scoring to the public.
As they are not connected to a government agency, or any agency; they are completely independent so they can offer an impartial, objective and unbiased viewpoint and advice.
They claim to have over 1.4 million customers.
~~ Finally ~~
I was extremely impressed with this site; it was very user friendly and even a novice would be able to navigate around it and gain some useful advice from it. I know quite a lot about the subjects that they cover and I still managed to learn something new.
I think it is a very useful site to take a look at whatever your circumstances are, you never know when the need arises you would be able to help someone by pointing them in the right direction.
I am pleased that I decided to look into something that I had been talking about for a couple of years, but had never looked into it as close as this before.
I highly recommend this site to everyone, if you only just take a look at it once.
