Newest Review: ... you email them, then print a copy off for yourself, ask for a receipt of reading, and mention in the mail that you will be keeping copies of all ingoing and outgoing email with them. The same goes for snail mail (postal).Keep copied of the letter and if you send any documentation then only send copies!! It is also worth the extra expense of sending items by recorded or registered delivery, this way they cannot dispute ever receiving the letters. Recorded delivery costs 64p plus appropriate first class stamp/weight. (92p for upto 60g letter)- this way your letter is signed for by the recipient. Special delivery costs from £3.75 for a 100g... more

Premium Review Consumer Rights in general: So, do you want to pick a fight with me ??  (1563 words)

I have had several notable battles in the past few years, some with big companies and some with huge companies. All but one battle was won successfully, and the only one I din?t have total success in was the one where I failed to follow my own set of rules for dealing with the matter. In today?s era of bigger companies, poor customer relations and less concern for the consumer these battles are becoming more frequent and increasingly hard to win. There is however a lot you can do to ensure you are dealt with in a satisfactory way, and to achieve success. **1\ Know you rights. There are several basic rights you need to know before ...  Read the complete review

When you purchase an item that goes faulty most people are unsure about what to do other than taking the item back to the shop. You should know your consumer rights, dont let the shop give you the Anne Robinson "you are the weakest link, goodbye" treatment. The Department of Trade and Industry has commissioned an independent survey to assess and measure consumer knowledge of their rights. The survey is an ongoing part of the "Consumer Affairs" series of reports. The Government has said it is committed to ensuring "that consumers are made fully aware of their rights at the point of sale". The survey looks at a whole range of Consumer ...  Read the complete review

spleen: n. A large, highly vascular lymphoid organ, lying in the human body to the left of the stomach below the diaphragm, serving to store blood, disintegrate old blood cells, filter foreign substances from the blood, and produce lymphocytes. That apparently is what my spleen is, and it's well and truly overdue to be vented. Here goes...... Whatever happened to Customer Service and Satisfaction? Frankly I am appalled with the contempt that some companies seem to show their customers. Even the 'good' companies often show a terrible disregard for the needs of the customer. To illustrate my points I'm going to use ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Extended Guarentees? - Phaa! (961 words)

How many of us have bought something, only for it to break after 14 months? And how many of us wished that we had bought that damn five year extended guarantee that the nice salesperson was trying to sell us, instead of just relying on the 12-month guarantee that came with it? Probably quite a few of us I imagine, I know I have. Now what? Well, it means either a trip down to the local repair centre, or in a lot of cases, a trip to the local waste disposal site and then a trip down to the shops to buy a new one. And this time we are definitely going to buy that extended guarantee, if for nothing else, for peace of mind. At least now, if something ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Consumer Rights in general: Free Legal Advice??????? (651 words)
by - written on 16/07/01 (Very useful, 136 readings)

The reason I have put this opinion on the consumer page is this web site has a very large section on consumer rights and legal advice when dealing with companies. As we all know good cheap legal advice is hard to come by, if fact is practically impossible. I was in a situation, after selling my house and buying a new one, of the solicitor giving me too much money back. We are talking a few thousand here which did very nicely after moving house. I spent the money believing that it belonged to me as I could not believe that any one would give away that much of their own money by mistake. Any how they had, and a month after the cheque was cashed and ...  Read the complete review
