Advantages: Free music
Disadvantages: quality not as good, takes a long time to download
Have you ever downloaded anything from the net and thought is this legal. The chance is if it's someones home page it probably is. Lets talk about downloading free mp3's from the internet. It's the typical students dream free music at the click of a button, but it's every record companys nightmare. But recent surveys show that kids and students only listen to the mp3's as a taster for if they want to buy the record officialy and legally. But record companies are haveing none of this and believe there profits are falling.
More sites are being closed down now than ever, but for every one site closed down another ten spring up. It's not hard for anyone with a simple knowledge of web page buiding to set up an mp3 site. so why are the record companies bothering?But then theres the other side of things your regular mp3 file size is around 4mb. Pretty hefty for a download but now faster connection speeds mean these can be downloaded quicker an without the risk that your connection won't break half way through downloading something.
Beginer artists love mp3 sites it gets them known so they think they can make a profit but people still download there music ffor free and they grow to hate mp3 sites.
I think that downloading mp3's is wrong but it will keep on happening for a very long time probably untill the next smaller format makes mp3 look like yesterdays news.

- 06/01/01 I'd have loved to rate this higher, but to do so would have been to rate you for your efforts, rather than to rate the 'usefulness' of the opinion (as we are supposed to).
Since about half the homepages on the net tend to breach someone's copyright somewhere, I found the opening paragraph of your opinion to be potentially risky advice.
The average homepage out there has stolen graphics from other sites, may have some software or music files for download, and may frequently have song lyrics included, all of these are copyrighted materials.
I' ;d also mention that since the topic of this category is copyright in general, rather than just mp3s, you may find that you'll get lower ratings than any opinions that cover the whole topic rather than a single aspect.
My rating is in no way an indictment of your writing style, just a comment on the actual 'usefulness' of this particular opinion on this particular topic. I hope this feedback is helpful should you wish to revise the opinion. - TK |
