One of the founders of Cosm is actually from distributed.net. As I understand it they had a falling-out over the direction of the organisation. He left, and formed Cosm. Cosm are tackling distributed computing in a very different manner to the rest. Whereas the others have full control of all aspects of the project – including writing (or at least handling) the core code, Cosm have chosen to develop a CS-SDK (client-server software developer kit).
