Advantages: The home of cricket info..

Disadvantages: ...well I guess we don't all like cricket

Cricket lovers, come and join the fun...this is cricinfo.com

Owned by ESPN, cricinfo.com is seen by many as the most insightful, informative and up-to-date cricketing website out there in the vast world wide web. Of course, those of you which can't stand the sport in any way, shape or form then this certainly won't be for you. Those who do like it and are aware of cricketing websites, then you will probably already know this one...

Now, on arrival to the website things may look confusing - there's an awful lot going on and plenty of places to click...so lets take things as logically as possible; At the top of the page is an index listing - countries, live scores, fixtures, results, news, features and photos are all there, which kind of speak for themselves! The Features section for example includes regular articles such as the Ask Steven section where one of their resident stato's answers your copious cricketing questions.

Moving down the page, as you'd expect all the main cricketing stories are found next - as is the case with any sporting news website. The headlines will guide you to the latest scores on the matches they're referring to, the latest bulletin and report, and any related photos. And that's where I use this website most...the latest scores.

For any international match and the majority of first-class matches, they have ball-by-ball updates, with some commentary to keep you informed of proceedings. The page provides you with the team scores, and details of the two batsmen at the crease and the two bowlers currently bowling. There's also commentary of the previous deliveries of the last 5 overs. The commentary can be quite detailed but also very tongue-in-cheek as the commentators have 'banter' with the audience. All the players listed are linked to their stats page on the Cricinfo website - an encyclopedia of what must be every cricket to ever play first-class cricket in any country. Something which can be fascinating reading if you go from player to player.

The homepage also gives links to several articles by writers for the website, many of whom are ex-professionals. There's blogs, but being someone who tends to avoid anything of this kind of thing then I've never even fancied clicking on it, and a fantasy cricket game - something I missed out on at the start of the season, but will definitely consider it next time around.

There's a few adverts dotted around the place on each page, which can get in the way and do count as a slight disadvantage. But being owned by ESPN they've got to make their money somehow.

So, cricket lovers everywhere rejoice. If ever you need a cricketing website for your needs, then cricinfo.com is the place. Those who don't like the sport...who knows, it could still surprise you!

Summary: You're first stop for anything cricket related

It bugs me that you still have to go around the house to find the national averages.
