Advantages: It is unbelievably quick and easy

Disadvantages: Rates are provided by Citibank but Google cannot guarantee the accuracy so don't use it for trading

This is an example of one of the many features that the Google search engine has, that people may not realise exists.

Forget going to xe.com or similar and fiddling about with drop-down menus for the currency, simply go to Google and type in “147 euros in pounds” – for example. Google works it out and gives you the answer: “147 Euros = 98.6319573 British pounds” and how’s that for accuracy!

This even works when you don’t know the currency of the country you’re interested in, one of the examples given by Google is “currency of Brazil in Malaysian money” which will tell you “1 Brazil real = 1.68284213 Malaysian ringgits”. Educational, too!

A few more examples are here:

I hope this makes your conversions easier.

Summary: Currency conversion on Google doesn't seem to be very well-known, but it should be.

A more rounded review would consider other convertors except those on DooYoo. Sam (Internet Guide)

Entering "euros in sterling" into Google gives "1 British pounds = 1.4758376 Euros", but you're right about the Cyprus pound - it doesn't seem to be able to recognise that. Thanks for pointing this out.

Hmm, well I tried it but didn't have much success. The currency we mainly use is Cyprus pounds, and Google doesn't appear to know about them. I tried asking for euros in sterling, and it just sent me to some currency converting sites. Seems like a good idea, but not fully implemented. I think I'll stick to Oanda.com which does at least recognise all the world currencies!
