Advantages: Plenty of opportunities to earn money.

Disadvantages: You need a PayPal account - activated with a credit card.

DeltaClick pays you $5 to sign up and allows you to earn up to $1 a day for clicking on links.

~~~~~~~~~
WHAT IS IT?
~~~~~~~~~

DeltaClick is a reward program that uses a small downloadable bar.

The DeltaBar sits under the top of your browser, just below the back button in Internet Explorer.

Download it after completing a short form: the download is 85K and will take a few seconds.

I have been using the DeltaBar for a day now and have not experienced any slowing down in load times for pages, or any other interference on my PC.

Anyone can sign up with DeltaClick, but you must sign a parental consent form if under 14, and to get paid you must live in a country eligible for PayPal membership - the UK is one.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
HOW DO I USE IT?
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Log on to the DeltaBar by clicking on the Log In link next to the orange DeltaClick logo. Once you have filled in your username and your password you are ready to go.

Look out for a blue clickable link appearing next to DeltaClick and Active on your DeltaBar.

This will state how many active links have been found - some will be paid and some will not.

At the moment all paid links seem to be for 1c, but with a maximum amount of $1 that can be earned each day, you could surf for hours and still get 1c per click.

In the future when DeltaClick have attracted more advertising they should have higher value links available.

This is a relatively quick way of earning money compared to many paid to read email or surfbar schemes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BUT WHAT IS THE POINT?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Basically, in the same way that Paid To Read Email programs do, DeltaClick pay you to visit sites.

In this case the visits that advertisers pay for should be highly targeted.

If you visit a site such as www.hotmail.com, you will be presented
with a few links to other email sites.

A visit to www.amazon.com will get you links to other book related sites.

DeltaClick charges advertisers a minimum of 10c per visit, so by paying you 1c and your upline referrers a small percentage, they stand to make a reasonable amount of money.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
HOW AND WHEN DO I GET PAID?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You will need a PayPal account (go to www.PayPal.com to sign up).

You must use the same email address to sign up for DeltaClick as you use for PayPal, as PayPal uses email addresses to identify its account holders, and to make transactions.

According to DeltaClick a link to request payment will appear when your account reaches $20.

Payments are sent out a maximum of 45 days after the end of the month in which they are requested.

This seems like a long time, since they are using PayPal, which transfers money electronically, but I presume that they have to wait for advertisers to pay them before any money can go out.

Deltaclick are suppose to be introducing other forms of payment - but as the fee for accepting a Paypal payment into your account is just over 2% - this is actually cheaper than cashing a cheque at the bank.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
IS THERE A REFERRAL SCHEME?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yes there is.

You earn a percentage of your referrals earnings, excluding their $5 sign up bonus.

Direct Referrals - referred by you - 10 percent.

Level Two - referred by your Direct Referrals - 5 percent.

Level Three - referred by the Level Two Referrals - 2 percent.

Level Four - referred by the Level Three Referrals - 1 percent.

You can refer people by sending them your referral url, or by using a banner supplied by DeltaClick.

Banner sizes range from the standard size banner that you may see on sites like dooyoo advertising web si
tes, to very small banners that are more like a large button in size.

You will find this information in the referrals section of the Members Area when you have logged in to the DeltaClick site.

You can get directly to the site once you have joined and downloaded the DeltaBar by clicking on the link at the left-hand side of the bar.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WHAT DO THEY MAKE OUT OF IT?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Advertisers pay for visits (hits) on a per hit basis.

The minimum price that DeltaClick quotes per click is 10c.

The most likely sites are going to be the big players on the Internet who already have a big presence - these are the people who can afford at least 10c a click.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WHERE DO I FIND LINKS THEN?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I have found quite a few paid links already - try checking out sites like www.hotmail.com, www.hollywood.com, www.amazon.com and others.

I found loads of sites in areas like computers, music, films, books - just keep clicking on links and you will soon work out where you can get the most links.

You would be surprised how many links you can come across just surfing whilst logged in to the DeltaBar.

Watch out though - I ended up getting nothing but French links one, which was somewhat bizarre, after I accidentally strayed onto a French language site that had several related links.

After that I couldn't seem to get anything other than French links, although I retraced my steps - fortuantely this stopped when I logged in again!

This would seem to indicate that your movements are tracked quite closely in order to give you highly targeted links, which is good for advertisers as well as surfers.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
IS IT WORTH DOING?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yes, with the usual caution that DeltaClick are a very new program.

However, you are not
paying anything to use the DeltaBar other than what you would normally pay anyway to surf, so it is worth it to get a few dollars.

If you look at it alongside a paid to read email program, which is the nearest equivalent, there are a lot of advantages to using the DeltaBar.

On my best paid email program I rarely earn over a dollar a month for my personal reads.

On DeltaClick I could earn $30 a month without any referrals.

The referral scheme extends to four levels, although it is for a small percentage.

On my most successful paid to read email program I get paid every 3 months with 18 referrals, and I still haven't had a cheque yet - there are two cheques in the pipeline.

I can get paid every time I get to $20 with DeltaClick, electronically with PayPal.

~~~~~~~~~~
THE VERDICT?
~~~~~~~~~~

A good program, with an apparently sound business plan.

Like any rewards based program, it will be interesting to see what happens after they have a wave of people requesting payment.

The question will be - can they get enough advertisers to make it viable?

As of 3rd February 2001 - I have been clicking for a couple of days so far, and have been astounded at the numer of links available to click.

The other question is - will users respond to sites or simply move from site to site for more money.

I think that given the sites that I have clicked on so far, many of them are sufficiently sticky for people to spend more than a few seconds on, and it may be a good way for advertisers to reach highly targeted users.

Join up and see what happens.

If you do join up, sign up at www.deltaclick.com, or to give me credit, drop me an email or click on the url at the top of my profile.
