Don't book with dial-a-flight

In 2011 myself and some friends booked a flight with Dial a flight and were happy with the journey and the service. We were aware that the deal they had arranged wasn't the cheapest but were content that we had let someone else arrange everything for us.
In 2012 we booked again for a trip to Gran Canaria. The flights and the hotels were booked and we were happy with the details but I was uncertain about the prices. I went online and I discovered that the entire trip was £1000 more expensive with dial-a-flight than direct from the hotel and airline at standard prices. I discovered that they had booked the basic room for the standard price of the delux seaview rooms. I confronted Dial-a-flight about this and recieved nothing but a wall of accusations and dismissal. Apparently it didn't matter that they were massively overcharging us it was our fault for agreeing.
We couldn't cancel even though we asked to do so only one week after booking (Ca. 2 months before travel) because their terms and conditions would not allow us without charging us the deposit, which according to Dial-a-Flight was the £2500 one of us had dutifully paid to cover their half of the holiday.
After complaining vigerously we did recieve a £300 reduction and promises that they would arrange something with the hotel. While I am pleased we did get a reduction the promises of upgraded rooms disappeared once we had settled our bill.
In addition Dial-a-flight failed to pay the additional (small fee) for each of us to reserve our seats on the flight. This meant that a group of 4 with 2 children had to split up and annoy strangers for a long flight.
Ultimately I cannot blindly rage against Dial-a-Flight because this was our own fault. Admittedly one of our group was too quick to confirm the booking by telephone and the rest of us were too slow to check. The warning here is that Dial-a-flight do not have your best interests at heart, are unlikely to give you anything close to the best rates or service and are totally inflexible if things go awry.
Summary: Poor customer service, poor value. Avoid.
