Advantages: Free, some interesting articles, brings traffic if you have your own site/blog

Disadvantages: It has a commercial aspect to some extent

Internet fads come and go within a few years, first we had chatrooms and forums, then instant messaging services and social networking platforms like Myspace, these days it's sights like Facebook and Bebo that are in the limelight as well, some may say that their days are numbered too.

Websites like digg.com are all the rage at the moment, social bookmarking sites which alter your browsing experience. You'll have noticed that "favourite stories" are prominent on news sites like Yahoo and BBC and that's similar to how Digg works. The homepage houses a list of articles, news and videos and images that are the most popular so far during the day. When someone sees something they like they "digg" it by clicking on a button entitled digg and the item with the most digg appears here.

If you have a blog, it can gain you no end of traffic by having a digg button on each post, obviously the interest you will obtain depends on the content, in theory it should be interesting but the things that interest people never cease to amaze me, so what you might think is a useful and interesting post might not be able to compete with a dog able to cut a pineapple. It's a mixed bag at digg but I think the internet is richer because of this site.

Perhaps the best thing about digg is that it is seperated into topics which allows you to be aware of new and popular articles in the area you desire.
