Advantages: Clear and easy to use.
Disadvantages: Only basic info.
Digital look provides free basic information on individual company shares and some other securities such as warrants.
There is a paid for service but I don't' see the point in it; a long term investor would get all the info in their detailed reports when they read the annual reports (free) and a day trader would have little use of fundamental data.
You can search by company name or epic code to bring up a page showing financial ratios and graphs as well as links to recent news stories.
A lot of the info provided isn't useful e.g. last trades and star ratings for value, growth etc. However you also get tables of historic and forecast EPS, dividend, turnover etc which is hard to find aggregated elsewhere.
You can get some data for foreign shares but the amount varies; the site is certainly focused on investors in UK equity. The coverage of trusts and funds is also poor.
Some of the tools the site provides are useful in the very early stages of planning a purchase; there are graphic representations of sectors, companies or indexes weighted by any of a long list of fundamentals.
You can sign up for various emails including triggered alerts if share prices change more than a specified percent or cross a certain level, plus there are a number of market commentary emails which are just a couple of paragraphs long; These include newspaper watcher, newspaper tips and broker recommendations.
There are occasional marketing emails but these come less than monthly so it is certainly worth it.
A lot of people discredit advice and they have a point when it comes to small companies but it can still form part of your research and in any case it is interesting to read other peoples investing philosophies.
On the two occasions I have contacted customer services they have replied quickly and were friendly.
Digital look is my first point of call when I become interested in a company but it doesn't provide any in depth info.
Summary: The first point of call when choosing a business.
