Advantages: Run by people like you, easy to use.

Disadvantages: Not as well known as other directories.

If you're a Yahoo! user, you'll like this. Like Yahoo!, the Open Directory Project (or DMOZ) is a directory. However it's built up by humans and lots of them.

ODP Editors are unpaid volunteers, looking after a small portion of the site and sorting out the good from the bad. Therefore the results you get are more relevant and you know someone has checked the site out first, to ensure it's not rubbish.

The Open Directory Project is often used as a powerful tool lurking in the background, for large sites like Google, .net or Netscape. Anyone can adapt the directory to put on their site and anyone can become an editor, provided they have the time and the knowledge of the topic.

As the site says - "HUMANS do it better."
