Advantages: free submission, used by other engines and directories.

Disadvantages: takes a month or so to get listed.

A few words for anyone with a web site to promote. There are no shortage of reviews of this site from the users perspective, so here's some information for people who might want to use it for promotion purposes.

You have got to list you site on dmoz - its free, and it is one of the biggest out there. There are many other directories and search engines drawing on this resouce, so a good listing will do wonders for your net presence.

The process of getting listed is very easy - go to the category that best fits your site, work through the sub catogeries, click on "add URL" then you get a form to fill in. When writing your site description, try to use as many key words as you can - this sort of thing is vital if you are going to get anywhere. The descrition is what anyone who finds your site in a search is going to erad, and it is also what the person reviewing your site is going to read. Take time on this, its well worth spending those extra minutes to make sure you present a good quality piece and do your site justice. It's well worth coming back to update your listing every time something changes on your site - make sure your most recent information is available and you will do better. Do not feed short term offers or "this weeks bargin' into directories like dmoz, as by the time they are listed they will be out of date, and you may not even get them listed at all.

Those using the directory can find you site by searching through the categories, or by using the search function. Main categories like shopping, internet etc divide up into sub categories much as they do on Dooyou, and are fairly logical. You may need to list your site in more than one place - this can be done, and will help people find you if they are searching through the lists. It is generally better not to add your site to lots of lists on the same day as this can look like spamming and may get you banned.

It takes about a month for you
to get processed, this is variable, so be patient. once you are there, you will be much more visible - not just because many people go to the dmoz site, but also because many other sites draw on it to compile their listings.

If at any point you want to change your listing, you can do so by going back to the site, following the subheadings down to where you are listed and clicking "Edit URL" - you then get to see what you put in the first time and can alter it.

This is a very user friendly directory and a vital resource - free submissions grow rarer, get onto this one before it changes (because the odds are good that it will sartcharging in the fulness of time.)

You have given no detail at all, perhaps you should read some of the good writers on the site and rather than write an opinion every ten minutes take your time to research the subject and write an opinion in the spirit of dooyoo, eg to provide useful informed opinions to people researching a product. If you add further detail I will happily reread and rate your opinion
