Why it's great to be a DMOZ Meta Editor This poem is dedicated to jimnoble and makrhod. Oh it's great to be a DMOZ Meta Editor. It's how I spend my time. The power it gives is awesome. Which inspires this little rhyme. I spend all day and night Rejecting each submission I analyse all ... Read the complete review

Another seemingly forgotten online directory is dmoz.org, lacking in reviews for a good few years - I think it's time to bring "Directory Mozilla" back in to the public eye. The idea here is that it's a web directory to rival Yahoo, only whilst Yahoo seems to list any Tom, Dick and Harry, Dmoz is ran by volunteers who keep their eyes ... Read the complete review

dmoz.org is like a socialist version of Yahoo. It's built by volunteers, who aren't paid- and the result is a labour of love (labour, get it? sorry...) which provides accurate, ad-free searching. This struck me as a really good idea. We all need search engines, but ads can be a real waste of time. Also I've noticed ... Read the complete review

Dmoz.org is the home of the Open Directory Project, ODP for short. Very few people seem to be aware of this site, even though almost everyone has indirectly used it. The ODP is the largest human-edited directory, their motto being 'Human's do it better'. It contains more than 2million recommended, hand-picked links. ... Read the complete review

A few words for anyone with a web site to promote. There are no shortage of reviews of this site from the users perspective, so here's some information for people who might want to use it for promotion purposes. You have got to list you site on dmoz - its free, and it is one of the biggest out there. There are many other directories ... Read the complete review

I came across dmoz.org via Google and found the categories very in-depth and easy to navigate. The site may not be the most appropriate for actually searcing, but if you want to put your site on search engines then this is the best way in my experience! No nonsense, all you do is find the specific category (e.g. for me ... Read the complete review

DMOZ is a directory much the same as Yahoo.com. Website owners goto http://www.dmoz.org and select a category for their site then use the form to submit to that category. What then happens is the editor of the category picks up your form and then reviews the site. What set's it apart from Yahoo is that the editors are people like you ... Read the complete review

The Open Directory Project (ODP) is Yahoo!'s main rival - not only does it list a lot more sites (over 2.15millon), but it has very few 'dead links' as they are regularly checked. Sites are normally reviewed within a week or two (as opposed to what seems to be a year+ on Yahoo), and the editors of ODP are easily contactable ... Read the complete review

If you're a Yahoo! user, you'll like this. Like Yahoo!, the Open Directory Project (or DMOZ) is a directory. However it's built up by humans and lots of them. ODP Editors are unpaid volunteers, looking after a small portion of the site and sorting out the good from the bad. Therefore the results you get are more relevant and ... Read the complete review

A great human-edited search engine. The site is relatively new but is growing every day as the human editors find and register more sites with dmoz.org. The only problem is that, as the number of sites is still growing, the number of results returned is quite low and may not cover a wide area. However, you can be sure that all the sites will be ... Dmoz, short for Directory Mozilla, but better known as the Open Directory Project, is a web directory that rivals Yahoo, and yet is built by volunteers. ODP began as GnuHoo, a name that clearly identified both its rivalry with Yahoo, and its allegiance to the Open Source movement. Rich Skrenta was the man with the plan (and the know-how) ... I can guarantee that the majority of you reading this will never have heard of www.dmoz.org (open directory project). This is a very good general purpose directory that relies on volunteers and enthusiasts to keep the categories up to date. It is similar to yahoo in many respects but is not commercial. It is essentially an ... Read the complete review
