Advantages: Great to be recognised and the extra cash is useful too
Disadvantages: Crowns sometimes seem a bit random
Ok I thought it was about time I threw my hat into the ring where the crowns are concerned.
Before I start I would like to say that I have never yet seen a crowned opinion which does not deserve its crown. Although I may be a little confused about who gets them and why the ones that are awarded are deserved. Right that's got that out of the way!
As you all know a crown is awarded to any review (except those in the discussion categories) that is of exceptional quality. The recipient then gets 1,500 Dooyoo miles or £1.50 if you choose to look at it that way.
When you read a review that you consider to be crownworthy (surely that's a word peculiar to Dooyoo!) then you can recommend the review for a crown by clicking on the link labelled 'nominate for a crown' which appears to the right of each review.
The way I understand it - and I am sure someone will be kind enough to correct me if I am wrong - the ultimate decision as to whether to award a crown or not rests with the Dooyoo team. Members and guides can make recommendations but the team have the final say.
Speaking now from my own point of view........
I love the recognition of receiving a crown. Writing has never been my strong point - I'm more of a maths girl myself so it is nice to get a pat on the back for my writing.
I sometimes write reviews that are reasonably basic by my standards - maybe 700 or so words - that say what needs to be said and no more. Sometimes I feel really strongly about a product and take time to do some research and collate all my information and thoughts together and write what I consider to be a really good review.
When we went on honeymoon stayed at a place in the Lake District called the Fayrer Garden House Hotel which was so fantastic I spent a lot of time writing a review to tell the reader everything they would need to know about the place, but it wasn't worth a crown.
I recently wrote a review about my Green Logmaker which is a piece of kit that enables me to recycle rubbish by making it into logs for my log burner. I made sure that I gave all the information I possibly could about this as it is important from the point of view of recycling - it got a couple of nominations but it wasn't worth a crown.
There are plenty more examples I could list but you get the point.
When I do get a crown - and I have had 51 crowns out of 708 reviews written - it is always after a couple of days when review has been well read, rated and maybe nominated a few times.
On the flip side of the coin I have seen reviews with crowns that are only minutes old with hardly any reads - how are these brought to the attention of the Dooyoo team and responded to by them so quickly?
As I said earlier I am NOT saying that any of these reviews do not deserve a crown but I am trying to understand what exactly the requirements are for a crowned review.
Maybe I'll never understand it but I know one thing is for sure - I will carry on trying to write to the best of my ability to inform and maybe entertain a little and to enjoy the time I spend here on Dooyoo.
Summary: I love to get a crown!
