Anyway - Dooyoo Selector.

It's not something that I'm particularly fond of, mainly because it's a pop-up. And I hate pop-ups. Hate 'em I do!

I have to say that I don't really see the point in 'forcing' people into choosing which types of advertising they wish to be bombarded with either. All the adverts are equally as irrelevant. It seems to be fashionable at the moment, "targeted advertising", however it seems to me that most advertisers shots are still missing by a long way - the definition of what constitutes say an entertainment advertisement, and what constitutes a technology advertisement are very loose. Targeted advertising can never really be that effective, as even within smaller groups people are still individuals with individual tastes... infact I think that perhaps it could be less effective, as advertisers will miss the opportunities to impress someone with an advert for a product that they might not have otherwise considered looking at.

Still, I guess it's good for Dooyoo. If Dooyoo is able to demonstrate that this "targeted advertising" is more effective than good 'ole traditional "throw everything you've got at 'em!" advertising, then it can charge more for each banner placed on the site, and help generate more funds to pay members and pay for the upkeep of the site - as well as ultimately leaving a nice profit, of course.

I would just question why the selector has to take the form of a pop up. Pop ups are almost universally unpopular and killed immediately by most users. There is no point in allowing people to have a choice if they get too p***ed off with the selector to make that choice.

Instead of hijacking our computers four times per session and forcing us to make our choice YET AGAIN, why not just place something on the profile page? Something that can be clicked once
and forgotten, something that will allow us to make the choice when it suits us, and something that isn't quite so annoying!!!!

Anyway, I support it for the fact that it's good for Dooyoo. Really, I don't like it and I think it's a waste of time. Anything that's good for Dooyoo is good for all of us though, so I support it for that reason alone.
