Advantages: if you are interested in certain things, then you can choose

Disadvantages: none

I suppose my title could be the truth. Dooyoo is good enough to pay us for writing, they have to get money from somewhere and advertising is a good money maker.

Now to the subject in hand - the new "toy" on the Dooyoo site.

It is known as the DooyooSelector. What this is here for is so that each individual user can choose the type of adverts they are interested in to be on their screen. You can choose from Technology, Money and Finance, Lifestyle and Travel, Entertainment and No Preference. I think each heading explains what it is about and obviously if you pick No Preference then you will get adverts from all the other advertisers. These 5 headings are placed around a round knob. This looks like a volume control from a hifi and I don't see much sigificance in this, but I suppose it brightens the popup up.

When you go to the Dooyoo site and enter your user name, then it will go to the screen telling you how many miles you have, and when you click on View Profile, this will load and then the DooyooSelector popup will appear. I admit when it first appeared I tried to ignore it, as I hate popups, but if you ignore it, everytime you try to head to another page it will keep appearing until you make a choice. So it is best to take a minute out of your busy schedule and get it our your face.

Today I picked No Preference. To be honest I don't think I have ever clicked on an advert on Dooyoo. I am interested in cheap DVDs, music and things like, and I don't seem to see these subjects covered here. That big red advert is haunting me though. You know the huge advert that most people get inserted at the end of their reviews advertising cheap PCs? Well everywhere I go, this seems to follow me.

So to summerise, this could be a good idea. I think Dooyoo relies on money from advertisers, and if this is all it takes to keep this good site on the net, then I am all for it.

Now that I've been able to actually save my preferences for 2 months I think it's better than popping up every time. RJL.
